Yup. I wasn't talking about debate in general, but bickering and endless arguing, specifically in religion debates. Yes, civil debate can be helpful, but being overly argumentative or arrogant is a different story. I knew you were going to say something like that. That's not what I meant, and I think you know it. You just like to argue. :)

That's why I rarely get into religion debates anymore. Especially on this site. I believe there's definitely a place for discussing theology...but bickering and always arguing is another matter. That definitely does not lead people to Christ, iyam.

I just meant that I converted away from a non-protestant church, and she did the opposite. I didn't mean to imply that they were the same… Although there are many similarities.

Ugh. I'm sorry, but that's one of the ugliest sites I've ever seen. The comments section is cringe‐worthy and extremely sad. The article is wrong too... which I guess isn't surprising, if the writer has the same mindset as the guys who hang out on the comments section of that site.

I don't want to get into a religion debate, but I kind of had the opposite experience as Terry. My mom raised my sisters and I Catholic, but that caused me to be an unbeliever. All I saw was religion, people going through the motions on Sundays but then acting like everyone else the rest of the week. Even as a child I intuitively knew that there was something missing, or off. No one even told me about salvation or my need to be born again. I didn't see any transformed lives or anything that would inspire me to seek God. So I rejected it all, unfortunately throwing out the baby with the bathwater. I'm very thankful that God pursued me and (years later) opened my eyes, which was the biggest turning point of my life. And 4 years after I became a Christian my younger sister also became a born-again Christian. We both go to nondenominational churches, but more importantly it's about following Jesus... it's a daily thing, that involves full surrender, not just going to church on Sundays. PS: I miss Kevin. :)

Haha. My family lived there for a year when I was nine years old. One of the memories I have is seeing people squatting on the side of the road going to the bathroom right out in public. That was a long time ago… I haven't been back there although I did visit another part of Indonesia in 2005, for a missions trip. IIRC, that article was talking about a small part of downtown where the homeless hang out. As Danno said, San Diego County is a big area with lots of towns, and overall it's a great place. Perfect weather, clean, close to the beach, normal people, definitely not a $#@!hole.

Some city in New Jersey that I was passing through years ago… I think it was Newark? Overseas, Jakarta comes to mind. Cairo was also really bad, apart from the interesting things to see like the pyramids.

A quick google search reveals estimates of over 500,000 feature films made, all time. The average person has about 50 years of movie watching. Generously assuming 2 unique movies a day, every day, for 50 years, comes to 36,500 movies, or 7.3% of all movies ever made. More realistically, a typical person is going to see much less than that over a lifetime of movie watching. So yeah. I'll throw STRANGER THAN FICTION into the mix. Also ABOUT TIME.

I don't know what you mean by white water, but it's actually not. Numerous studies have shown the connection between a protein found in animal milk and certain types of cancer. Among other things. Of course we've been inundated with so called studies that say dairy is healthy, but those studies have been shown to be funded by the dairy industry. In fact, I highly recommend that everyone watch the documentary "What The Health" which shows the collusion between the animal industries and government. Also, there's a reason why the majority of the worlds population is "lactose intolerant." I don't think it's difficult to figure out what that reason is.

I agree with most on this thread that people should be able to put parasite–ridden animal breast milk into their body, if that's what they really want to do. But I think if most people knew the truth about dairy… both the health side of it, and what takes place before it gets to you, even on the so-called "humane" farms... they would ditch it ASAP. Even on the smaller farms, calves are taken away from their mother, usually on the first day of their life....Because we can't have the baby cow drinking our milk, can we? This separation is deeply distressful to both the mother and the baby. Then since the male calves are useless to the dairy industry, they are either killed immediately or they are raised for veal, meaning they will be put in a very small pen, not allowed to move so their muscles atrophy, and then of course they are killed at a young age so someone can satisfy their desire for baby flesh. Please watch this video, the whole thing.

Very good points. The term "spiritual war" probably brings to mind negative things for people... But as you said, our tools or 'weapons' are things like love, intercessory prayer, and even songs of praise and worship to God. It may sound hard to believe to some, but those things are more powerful than evil, and evil cannot stand against it. It may be hard to move in the opposite spirit in this crazy world with so much hate and aggression… I think it goes against our human nature to love our enemies and return evil with good… But it's exactly what God told us to do.

I've noticed you always, always, always turn arguments into a legal discussion. People are free to pray to whoever the hell they want. It's absurd to think that there should be laws against spellcasting or things like that. It's not a physical war, it's something that goes on in an entirely different realm. And as a couple of us have already said, we don't have to be afraid, if God is for you then who do you have to fear? ETA: I just noticed, that post sounded kind of harsh, I'm sorry. :o

It may be a children's story but the bottom line is it glorifies witchcraft/sorcery and tries to make all those things 'cool.' The crazy thing is, lots of Christians don't see it that way. In fact, I know some practicing Christians who like the Harry Potter series and let their kids read it. It may sound crazy to nonbelievers, but that's exactly what the enemy of God wants. That's why it's so important to be aware of what we put into our minds… because there's so much garbage out there, including things that are very appealing or addicting, but not good spiritually. I agree with both Donna and pcosmar. We shouldn't worry, or be scared of those things. (1 John 4:4 says why) But at the same time, we need to be aware, especially when it comes to kids. As Jesus said: be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. :)

From a Biblical perspective, there is only one God. So if someone is not praying to the true living God of the universe, then who are they praying to? It makes a big difference, because there is a spiritual realm, but not all spirits are of God. It may sound silly or hard to believe to non-Christians, but there is a spiritual war going on… and we have to be careful, because there are certain powers that are very deceptive. The Bible says even Satan masquerades as an angel of light. Witchcraft is simply people trying to get power from the wrong spirits...from the demonic realm.

We are in agreement on that. The last part of what you said is what I try to get across to people who think that we can do whatever we want with animals. But unfortunately, to unbelievers those words usually fall on deaf ears.

I didn't say anything about the OP, I just replied to AF, so please only argue things I actually said. Man was given dominion, but I'm not sure what your point is. It seems that we agree Dominion means we rule over the animals, but it doesn't mean we own the animals. God is the owner, we are the managers or caretakers. I've posted this before, but for anyone who hasn't watched it, please take a few minutes to watch it. :)

You contradicted yourself. Why should our behavior have anything to do with animal behavior, when humans are not animals, as you just admitted? Because we are not animals (or savages) that is all the more reason for us to not act like savages. Only according to man-made laws, but we all know man-made laws do not constitute actual truth.
