Here we have required yearly check ups and an actual particle/emissions measurement on the exhaust is required. Look at the Volkswagen diesel-gate, where the manufacturer built in software to run cleanly whenever it was tested but dirty otherwise. Quite interesting. My car (5cil turbo diesel), has an ECU upgrade that added ±20% to stock horses, ±10% to torque, open airfilter and improved exhaust system (that may need to be replaced by the stock system at time of the check up :redsmiling:). Passes the test every year. I think the way it's done here is not the freedom way but it's reasonable. Everything is grandfathered in, if it's legal when it's first put on the road, it remains legal. I do pay a high tax to drive a diesel (about $150 a month (!), triple the price to run the same vehicle on gas), but diesel fuel is about 10% cheaper here and my car weighs almost two tons, I run between 30-40mpg depending on my foot (And I drive a lot, easily 35kmi a year). But I'm all there with you, many of these environmental tests don't really make sense. Especially on vehicles that were designed after they were put in place, as they were designed to pass those tests. Does it actually make sense ? I don't know. Cars have become thousands of times cleaner already, literally. The newest developed diesel engines put out pretty much only water and co2 at the back.

You seem to know "Boomers" whom I've never met, my siblings and I didn't inherit anything yet each of us are leaving our children legacy in the form of land and investments. A legacy each of us earned, on our own without government assistance. I have one brother who eats fast food and I'm certain neither he nor his family squabble over coupons, most of us prefer to cook our own food. Like you, I whined as a youngster, gas jumped to over a dollar per gallon, a new car cost around $3k, a modest house without land was $25-30k while me as a lowly E-2 made just over $400.00 per MONTH before taxes. Every generation wishes that they were born with their lifetime allotment of wealth and knowledge so that they could use it wisely while they're in good health..You're not the first, neither was I... Many of my generation did embrace masks/lockdowns etc, and many believe 'TehNewz'.......Many didn't and don't. Broad brush painting of people isn't smart but we all do it to a certain extent.

Maybe you'd care to point out one issue I raised? It's understandable that you don't appreciate the world you've inherited, most generations don't. Just as most generations try their best to "reform" society in order to suit them at any given stage in their life. I tend to view the past generations, our ancestors, as people who tried to do their best. Many were foolish, some were greedy but by and large each generation leaves the world more advanced and the worldwide standard of living improved. It takes a special kind of victim to whine about inheriting a world with modern housing/transportation and widespread knowledge, that or exceptionally stupid and entitled person who claims to not be a victim while sniveling about their lot in life... Maybe......Just maybe......A few decades of toil, a few relationships, a few business endeavors and a few children will change your outlook? Or maybe not.

After giving this a few more cups of coffee there may be other factors at play. "The Boomers" are the last generation who were raised in intact households, by and large. All succeeding generations have been exposed to 'single mother syndrome', either directly or indirectly. Even in the most upscale environments the influence of single mothers plays a role in societies development, and yes us Boomers started this and it's a cancer that's growing at an alarming rate, probably faster than government. The idea that 'widows and children' must be supported has been exploited for 3 generations now and the younger folks accept this as normal. The widows and children who needed support a few generations ago were struggling due to no fault of their own, statistically. Today it's become a vocation. All due to government interference.
