The Feds (and anyone who advocates for this involuntarily-funded "fund") have no more business taking from me and mine and giving it over to (an extremely small subset of) New Yorkers than they have taking from me and mine and giving it over to Pakistanis or Azerbaijanis or Wherever-the-hell-is. As far as I'm concerned, New York and its eponymous city might as well be a foreign country. I've never been there - or to Pakistan or Azerbaijan or Wherever-the-hell - and I don't have any plans or intentions of ever doing so - so why the hell should I forcibly be put on the hook for the tragedies that happen in those places? They don't have a goddam monopoly on tragedy - so why the hell are they so much more deserving of federal funding at taxpayer expense than the far greater number of other victims of other tragedies in other places? As far as I can tell, this whole issue derives from little more than the desire of politicians (and assholes like Jon Stewart) to publicly masturbate their "compassion" (and thereby signal their "virtue") at the expense of other people ...

It's probably worse than 50/50. I recall hearing years ago about an audit of some federal government "charity" program or other (I don't remember which) - the report found that only 7 percent of the program's receipts had actually been spent on its mandated mission. The other 93 percent went to salaries, staff increases, promotions and assorted other bureaucratic overhead ...

Meh. Trump could say, "The sun rises in the east" and he'd be "right" as far as that goes. Seems to me like Ron is just saying, "Trump makes some nice-sounding noises on this issue, but actions speak louder ..." If I had a penny for every time some politician made some nice-sounding noises about something, I'd be rich ... (even with the Fed inflating the value of pennies away ...)

The existence of human chattel slavery and the ownership of other humans as chattels is indeed fundamentally economic in nature, regardless of the race of the slaves involved. Nevertheless, it is simply absurd to claim or even suggest that the institution of slavery that was particularly manifested in America (and throughout the British Empire) was not profoundly - indeed, even absolutely - racist in character. It certainly and obviously was. Black Africans were subject to slavery, while white Europeans were not - and there is simply no economic "justification" for that distinction. It was racist. Period. And note that I have not said that this Horn fellow made such a claim. Going solely on the basis of the quotes in the OP article, it appears that he did not. But he is a fool if he thought he could actually get away with (correctly) pointing out the ultimately economic basis for the existence of slavery in America without at least acknowledging the deeply racist character of the system of slavery that was erected on that foundation ...

A few? If you have trashed your own reputation and your opponents have a good reputation, the solution is simple. Just change your name to their name. Well, it's easy if the entire mainstream media are your lap dogs. The only question this raises in my mind is, why is the Ron Paul Institute lending FEE and CATO credibility they don't deserve by calling them libertarian?

Ah ,, No.. and that was the second ship... They were stopped but not detained .. corrected coarse and were free to go. the first one had shut of its Navigational Beacon,, refused hails and was heading at speed directly at the coast inside Iranian waters and outside of normal shipping lanes. Its Track is recorded.. Why it went silent is not. As to someone deliberately and provocatively redirecting shipping.. Well that IS possible.

Her statement explains it all. And SHE is the one doing the attacking. She is the one attacking Patriots by trying to cause severe damage to their reputation. Patriots are NOT Nazis, and once its clear she is the one doing the attacking, it becomes clear that SHE is an Enemy of Liberty. Having Closed Borders merely means we control who comes here permanently so there is no such thing as "Undocumented Immigrant". We need some reasonable restrictions. We cant just take all their Criminals and just put them all on Welfare at the expense of the current residents. Oh you have a criminal history? For something serious, like Murder? Yeah, we dont want you, go home. If thats what it means to be a Nazi, then I see it as intentionally and knowingly provoking Civil War by playing both sides of the chess board. What a powerful statement she made with a few simple words. Good job AOC at destroying your own reputation.

Since when is the "We got a badass over here" meme "gay"? It's been all over the interwebz for many moons and it's used by all sorts of folks. There are several samples in the various "bestest picture thread evarrr"-s.
  8. The reason I have no use for monarchies is it's complete pot luck what you get. If your generation gets a Victoria, you could be in worse shape (assuming her advisors aren't lying to her about what they're doing), but if you get an Ivan the Terrible you're screwed. I prefer a system that at least holds out hope for nonviolent revolution, whether people are generally smart enough to use it or not.

And I'm pretty sure you meant neither Bismarck nor the kaiser.

    President von Hindenburg

You're right, I should have said the Kaiser, not Bismarck. :/ (My WWI history is rather rusty...I do remember Hitler suffered from mustard gas inhalation during that war and a bunch of other factoids) Yeah, monarchs have been somewhat fascist in certain occasions, but they always had incentive not to destroy their subjects' economy or their own respective societies as presidents and prime ministers or even legislators do. (such elected officials almost always leave office very wealthy and almost never face justice for their misdeeds) Generally speaking, the best to worst scale goes- voluntary association with government>hereditary monarchy>monarchy>classical republicanism>modern constitutionalism>democracy etc.

What has it to do with politics? Everything. Politicians piss us off, then try to misdirect our anger 'across the aisle' to people who are fundamentally exactly the same, but wear a different party label. The game is age old, but still works.

People are angry, but they are often in denial about it. They know they're angry, but they don't want to admit they're angry
