I've had the same experience with other stories published by the Washington Examiner. This serves as a good reminder to always take note of the source of a story before taking it at face value. If I hadn't neglected to do so in this case, I would have been more skeptical. (And to be fair, the Daily Mail isn't exactly noted for its reliability, either ...)

https://twitter.com/CHSommers/status/1381003322702897153 1381003322702897153 Here a few more tidbits from the article referenced in the tweet (the author is, of course, a "crtical race studies professor"): nti-Asian racism has the same source as anti-Black racism: white supremacy. So when a Black person attacks an Asian person, the encounter is fueled perhaps by racism, but very specifically by white supremacy. White supremacy does not require a white person to perpetuate it. White supremacy is an ideology, a pattern of values and beliefs that are ingrained in nearly every system and institution in the U.S. It is a belief that to be white is to be human and invested with inalienable universal rights and that to be not-white means you are less than human – a disposable object for others to abuse and misuse. The dehumanization of Asian people by U.S. society is driven by white supremacy and not by any Black person who may or may not hate Asians. White supremacy as the root of racism can be seen in the Latino man in Texas stabbing a Burmese family in March 2020, claiming he did so because they were Chinese and bringing the coronavirus into the U.S.

Whatever difference there may be, it is certainly not so huge that an 18-year-old can reasonably be expected to understand that street racing is dangerous and stupid, that carjacking is dangerous and morally wrong, and that if one does either of those things one can and should be held to account for the consequences, but 13- or 14-year-olds cannot. I neither said nor implied any such thing. By the same logic, I could say, "So ... let me see if I understand. You think there is some equivalence between a carjacking that results in the death of an innocent person and someone hitting and killing a pedestrian because that person had a heart attack while driving?" But I won't say it, because you haven't given me any reason to think such a silly thing about you - just as I haven't given you any reason to think that I regard premeditated murder and "a carjacking gone bad" as somehow equivalent. And if I wanted to be as snarky and accusatory as you are for some reason being towards me, I could also point out that the notion of a "carjacking gone bad" is a rather bizarre way of putting things (carjackings don't "go bad," they already are bad, and can only get worse, which is what this one did) and could be interpreted as an attempt by you to downplay the gravity of what happened. But I won't do that either, because I don't actually think that of you and I'm not trying to be snarky or accusatory.

I think you mean "equity" instead of "equality." Wokeness explicitly rejects the idea of "equality" as being symptomatic of "white privilege." What you mentioned (getting cancelled/excoriated/ruined for improper pronoun usage while "Nazi" smear peddlers are rewarded) is an excellent example of exactly the kind of deliberately disproportionate response that "equity" aims to implement and achieve. Captain O should check again: street racer was 18 - just a few years older than the girls. (He was sentenced to 24 years.) And as minors, they were sent to prison for as long as the law allowed (to age 21). That won't happen in this case. In fact, the girls won't go to prison at all. From the OP: Walsh is aware of the differences ...

So, let's get this straight... You can get cancelled, fired, publicly excoriated, and ruined for refusing to use someone's "preferred pronoun", but if you call someone the bare-faced Nazi embodiment of evil in your comic books, you get rewarded? Man, I'm really gonna need that decoder ring to figure out what they mean by, "equality".

This is why I despise democracy. It deludes far too many people into imagining that elections actually matter. Election outcomes are the effects of causes - they are not causes themselves. When they are not fraudulent, at best they might be useful as weather vanes for detecting the quarter of the wind, but little else. When liberties (such as the 2nd Amendment) are lost, it is never because of any election (fraudulent or not). It is always because enough people didn't give enough of a damn to actually do something about it before it was too late. (And sticking a piece of paper inscribed with magical incantations into a wishing box does not count as "doing something" ...)

The Dawn of Medical Lysenkoism The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Episode 28 The agriculturalist Trofim Lysenko should be a household name throughout the world in roughly the same way that Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, and Mao Zedong are or should be. That is, Lysenko shouldn't be known for his successes, which are none of his legacy, but for his catastrophic failure. He was the agriculturalist of the Soviet Union, first under Stalin, and his ideological biology (Lysenkoism) led directly to the deaths of tens of millions, first in the Soviet Union and then in Maoist China. Lysenkoism implied famine and mass death, and disputing Lysenkoism, despite its catastrophe, meant a trip to the gulag or a bullet in your head. We should be aware of Lysenko because it is crucially important to understand how the ideological perversion of science, especially the biological sciences, can lead to catastrophes. In fact, if we were more aware of Trofim Lysenko and his legacy of death, we might be more cognizant of the threat we're currently stumbling our way into under the banners of "antiracist medicine" and "health equity." These are the dawn of Medical Lysenkoism, which is a tragedy in the making, potentially on a grand scale, and this is already well underway. The threat of Medical Lysenkoism is rapidly growing around us already, and we have to take it seriously and demand it be put to a halt. In this case, Critical Race Theory and its perverse doctrines of "antiracism" and "equity" are being leveraged to transform healthcare away from a science- and patient-oriented endeavor to an activist opportunity to "level the playing field." Further, under the banner of "health equity" and Covid-19, our society's concerning lurch toward medical dictatorship (governed by this new "equitable" Medical Lysenkoism) is becoming the standard throughout our medical schools, hospitals, and research universities. This is a preventable catastrophe in the making.

COS is not necessarily a scam, but could absolutely turn into one--and people will try to hijack it. So, it makes some of us nervous. The main points are: 1. The Constitution is pretty damned good. The only reason it isn't preventing these abuses is no one is obeying it, and demanding it be obeyed. 2. A convention of states is a way to amend the Constitution. Amendments could give the document teeth. Amendments could also gut it. And even a convention called by the right people to do the right things could do major harm. All it takes is a few moles with some carefully crafted language to ensure the Constitution comes out worse, not better. Worse, if the bad guys pack the house with delegates, then while the public is listening to the Constitutionalists and thinking this is a good thing, the convention could be replacing our Constitution with that of the Soviet Union. That's more my take on it than the gist of the article, which I also had trouble with. But I think they were trying to make similar points.

Since when is the "We got a badass over here" meme "gay"? It's been all over the interwebz for many moons and it's used by all sorts of folks. There are several samples in the various "bestest picture thread evarrr"-s.
  8. The reason I have no use for monarchies is it's complete pot luck what you get. If your generation gets a Victoria, you could be in worse shape (assuming her advisors aren't lying to her about what they're doing), but if you get an Ivan the Terrible you're screwed. I prefer a system that at least holds out hope for nonviolent revolution, whether people are generally smart enough to use it or not.

And I'm pretty sure you meant neither Bismarck nor the kaiser.

    President von Hindenburg

You're right, I should have said the Kaiser, not Bismarck. :/ (My WWI history is rather rusty...I do remember Hitler suffered from mustard gas inhalation during that war and a bunch of other factoids) Yeah, monarchs have been somewhat fascist in certain occasions, but they always had incentive not to destroy their subjects' economy or their own respective societies as presidents and prime ministers or even legislators do. (such elected officials almost always leave office very wealthy and almost never face justice for their misdeeds) Generally speaking, the best to worst scale goes- voluntary association with government>hereditary monarchy>monarchy>classical republicanism>modern constitutionalism>democracy etc.

People are angry, but they are often in denial about it. They know they're angry, but they don't want to admit they're angry
