The LP has comedy value, to be sure. We have seen the enemy, and don't know if it's the CIA or if it's our own autistic asses. But I think the conversation was about, or more about, small-l libertarianism as a philosophy. And on that score, I think the old adage that it's always darkest before the dawn has merit, because excess tends to cause a backlash. They're trying to get us to go full totalitarian because of the problems they created. That's why they have reacted so strongly to Ron Paul and ourselves, and have worked so hard at usurping the Tea Party and other things. All we can do is keep broadcasting the fact that the government caused all those problems, usually deliberately, and see if that allows us to play one "side" off against the other. We have a real chance to do that, if we can avoid getting caught up in their artificial divide, and remember that the lesser evil is still more evil than ever.

I'm thinking (for what my opinion is worth) that you're better informed than ~95% of the population. The tricky part these days is figuring out what all that information adds up to. Toward. Look at the twixt in Brian's post just above yours.

Like that's still optional at this point. He guaranteed the currency will crash in the next four years during his first term, and that destructive policy hasn't changed. That aspect of the economy is beyond anyone's control now, I think.

That's what I'm saying... If they can't maintain plausibility, they won't attempt another steal. They'll let him have it, probably ensure that he doesn't get majorities, then tank the economy on his watch. (Hmmm... like they did before???)

Not for me. I'm far more likely to contribute to a maintenance man working in the private sector than any government employee. Anyone on the government teat who hasn't put something aside is a brat. Sometimes you do make me wonder who you think you're talking to when you come here.

But it's not plausible, Biden least of all. So if they do another steal, we can all bet our bottom dollars that it's a deliberate provocation.

After yesterday, I think all bets are off. Unless the GOP really blows it this week at the convention, it doesn't matter who they put in. No other candidate, including Michelle Obama, will be plausible. And the intel agencies don't need the result to be legit - but they do need it to be plausible. At this point, they might as well run Biden to give themselves a good excuse for losing.

Meh. It's not like it's even slightly unusual. I haven't seen ex-President Trump referred to as "unemployed reality show host", or Jimmy Carter as "retired peanut farmer". It's also completely understandable, especially in an obit. And there's reason for it. When people are trying to put a face to a name, "one time variety show host Carol Burnett" tends to work better than "occasional guest on Password Carol Burnett". You're grilling a nothing burger this time.

Note the verb used: "was". Ex-fire chief. I've seen that noted elsewhere, probably in the Butler Eagle. Not that it matters in a small enough town to have a volunteer fire department. My grandpop was assistant fire chief, but his day job was his bakery. Even had a siren on his bread wagon. If you're really interested, CaptUSA and he had several mutual real life friends. Check with him. Yeah. That.

But it does matter, if the locals had it covered but were ordered to LIHOP. And people call all manner of law enforcement "police", though it's equally true that any number of agencies put "POLICE" on the backs of their uniforms, too.

Dude, shut the hell up. He lived in Buffalo Twp and worked in East Butler at JSP. I didn't know him, but we have mutual friends. His family is all shook up and they've been posting about him. There's video and testimonials about him getting shot and being dragged out. Around there, there are very few full-time paid firefighters, but LOTS of volunteers. Listen, I can respect your skepticism, but you're making all kinds of leaps and assumptions. And you're wrong.

No. At least not within the perimeter of the Farm Show grounds. They screened everyone. Now, outside the gates, I'm sure there were plenty, but what are you gonna do? Start picking off dudes with sniper rifles on roofs??! That's a good way to end up in federal prison for life. There were lots of people hanging out at parties at all the houses in the area, too. I talked with several people who said they were at so-and-so's house because of the heat and the crowds. I have a cousin that lives in Meridian (near the back gate of the farm show) who told me the helicopters and FBI were out all night. The FBI parked in her driveway and ordered her back inside to let the bomb squad do their work. Really, the whole town is buzzing today.

Pretty sure it was the shooter. Those bullets that whizzed by Trump hit people. Killed Corey and injured 2 others (still not sure who). FWIW, I'm learning that I have lots of mutual friends with Corey (not surprising for a small town and he's just a few years younger than me.) Everyone is sharing their memories of him.

Since when is the "We got a badass over here" meme "gay"? It's been all over the interwebz for many moons and it's used by all sorts of folks. There are several samples in the various "bestest picture thread evarrr"-s.
  8. The reason I have no use for monarchies is it's complete pot luck what you get. If your generation gets a Victoria, you could be in worse shape (assuming her advisors aren't lying to her about what they're doing), but if you get an Ivan the Terrible you're screwed. I prefer a system that at least holds out hope for nonviolent revolution, whether people are generally smart enough to use it or not.

And I'm pretty sure you meant neither Bismarck nor the kaiser.

    Chancellor von Bismarck
    President von Hindenburg

That help get the rust out of your history? 'Cause those who get rusty on history are liable to re-live the bad parts...

You're right, I should have said the Kaiser, not Bismarck. :/ (My WWI history is rather rusty...I do remember Hitler suffered from mustard gas inhalation during that war and a bunch of other factoids) Yeah, monarchs have been somewhat fascist in certain occasions, but they always had incentive not to destroy their subjects' economy or their own respective societies as presidents and prime ministers or even legislators do. (such elected officials almost always leave office very wealthy and almost never face justice for their misdeeds) Generally speaking, the best to worst scale goes- voluntary association with government>hereditary monarchy>monarchy>classical republicanism>modern constitutionalism>democracy etc.

What has it to do with politics? Everything. Politicians piss us off, then try to misdirect our anger 'across the aisle' to people who are fundamentally exactly the same, but wear a different party label. The game is age old, but still works.

People are angry, but they are often in denial about it. They know they're angry, but they don't want to admit they're angry
