Never mind that they can't get away with making the major party nominee He Who Must Not Be Named in the general election. We must vote for the name we hear most, because electability. Never mind the purpose of the primary is to carefully home in on the best your party has to offer. We have to go with the most talked-about before many states even vote because horse race and unity and picking winners and stuff.

Ain't it funny how "unity" only ever goes in one direction for these assholes? For all their jabber about how "it's time to stop infighting and unite" and therefore libertarians should join them, how often have they ever joined us? Of all the various electoral contests at various times over the years, there must surely have been at least some few in which the Libertarian candidate was the superior choice even by their own standards. Yet how many of them ever gave their support to those candidates - instead of mewling about how Libertarians are unelectable and therefore the Republican candidate must be supported, no matter how lousy he or she may be (only to then pitch a fit if the supposedly insignificant, irrelevant, and impotent libertarians ended up "spoiling" the election)? Hell, most of the bastards who were the loudest when it came to shouting about the Constitution and whinging about "the left" couldn't even be bothered to support Ron Paul when he had an "(R)" after his name, let alone when he had an "(L)" there ...

I disagree. It's in no way an appeal to us. It isn't just that even as he pretends to kiss our butts, he insults us early, often and deeply. But it's more pernicious than that. So, the fact that RINOs have done every bit of their share in moving us a long, long way away from the Constitution--more, really, because they're less likely to be resisted by the people who hired them--is just one of those shit happens in the real world things. Trying to actually do something about it, like listen to libertarians and nominate decent candidates, instead of nominating whomever CNN whines about the most as usual, is not important. What's important is blaming libertarians when CNN picks you a loser like McCain or Romney. Never mind that you fell for it and nominated the guaranteed loser, instead of listening to those "smug" people who know better and trying it their way for the first time since 1924 (when we had people were in office, people were free, and the U.S. economy was making the world wealthy).

Those who went off the reservation may therefore appeal to you, in light of the fact that you will die of starvation eventually. But if our cavalry ever finds them, they will die sooner. Therefore, it's important that you stay on the reservation and hope you die later, rather than sooner." "Voters of Team Red. You know this empire is crumbling. We are the ones tearing it down. But it's important that you keep nominating whomever CNN tells you constantly that they hate, or Team Blue might cause the empire to crumble faster. Therefore it's important that you not try it their way and see if He Who Must Not Be Named, if nominated, might win the election, because then the empire might not outlive you." Stay on the reservation, Republicans. That way, even if you win, you lose.

"True" conservative candidates? LOL. File together with "real" Communism (you know, the kind that has "never been tried yet"). Conservatism is just the rearguard of progressivism. G.K. Chesterton identified this fact a century ago. Nothing has changed.

It's not about convincing libertarians that the same stupidity that got us into this mess will get us out. It's about making people who aren't conservative, but self-identify as conservatives, afraid to "leave their lane" and do something in their own self-interest for a change. God forbid they stop depending on CNN to tell them who CNN hates the most, and act on their principles for a change. They might discover doing the same thing over and over, hoping for a different result, isn't as much fun as they thought it was Team players will throw the game time after time after time, if you've buffaloed them into thinking scoring real points will lose your Team the game.

I have never understood the tactic of sneering at some group over what useless wankers they supposedly are while at the same time lamenting that you don't have more support and "unity" from them. Is that actually supposed to persuade anyone of anything? Because it seems more like sour grapes to me.

Trust me, this is all about 2024 to the OP, yes. No, I don't really have an argument against states pushing back against .fedgov, especially considering the way I talked about Montana and their ban on employer mandates. No, I have no objection to temporary relief at all. I'm just not any more interested in which Red Flock Shepherd is more Alpha than you are. Am I concerned DeSantis will get too much credit for this? Not really. I'm more concerned that people seem to be confusing this with conservatism. I'm concerned that no matter how dire the situation becomes, Team Red will never be able to pull their heads out and realize that only their principles will save us. Their New Alpha Shepherd won't even try, any more than Reagan or Trump did. I learned from history, and I'm fucking sick of repeating it. That, too, isn't complicated. People just insist that the same stupidity that got us into this mess will get us out. What was that definition of insanity, again?

Slavers defending slavery were trying to give their tribe more options. And demanding that "the conservative party" offer up conservatives will at least help us find the cancer. If the GOP cannot or will not do so, it is the cancer.

Yes you do. You're just smart enough to see the simile is imperfect. Yes, it's a humanitarian thing to do to help those who are suffering treat the symptoms. It's a more humanitarian thing to do to cut out the cancer. One provides temporary comfort. The other restores hope.

Actually, it's called states' rights. It's anti-federalist. And DeSantis is trying to give his tribe more options, at everyone else's expense. If I was genetically disposed to approve of that sort of thing, I wouldn't be descended from abolitionists. I'm older than Medicare. But even if I wasn't, I'd be more concerned with getting a free market than with hoarding for my tribe more supplies than my tribe even needs. I guess that's the difference between conservatives and Team Red.

And? I'm not some sheep looking nervously to see if the New GOP Presumptive Nominee is Alpha enough to ensure the Red Flock gets their share. I'm much more concerned with trying to find a way to get my free market back--and all our other God-given freedoms. I guess it's just a matter of priorities. All in the world we need to do to get our free market back is pull our head out of their crotches and grow a pair of our very own.

Very well. Remember that you asked. This government of the multinationals, by the multinationals and for the multinationals is gearing up to lock people down farther, destroy their livelihoods and their health, and insert undisclosed foreign agents into their bodies through graphene nanotubes which give them direct access to the DNA, by force. Anyone who can look at that and say, "The real crisis here is there are more brown people coming," is a fucking idiot.

Who cares if doctors have autonomy to do what's best for their patients? Who cares about the pawns? We're all watching the chess game to see if DeSantis is more Alpha than Biden.

Since when is the "We got a badass over here" meme "gay"? It's been all over the interwebz for many moons and it's used by all sorts of folks. There are several samples in the various "bestest picture thread evarrr"-s.
  8. The reason I have no use for monarchies is it's complete pot luck what you get. If your generation gets a Victoria, you could be in worse shape (assuming her advisors aren't lying to her about what they're doing), but if you get an Ivan the Terrible you're screwed. I prefer a system that at least holds out hope for nonviolent revolution, whether people are generally smart enough to use it or not.

And I'm pretty sure you meant neither Bismarck nor the kaiser.

    President von Hindenburg

That help get the rust out of your history? 'Cause those who get rusty on history are liable to re-live the bad parts...

You're right, I should have said the Kaiser, not Bismarck. :/ (My WWI history is rather rusty...I do remember Hitler suffered from mustard gas inhalation during that war and a bunch of other factoids) Yeah, monarchs have been somewhat fascist in certain occasions, but they always had incentive not to destroy their subjects' economy or their own respective societies as presidents and prime ministers or even legislators do. (such elected officials almost always leave office very wealthy and almost never face justice for their misdeeds) Generally speaking, the best to worst scale goes- voluntary association with government>hereditary monarchy>monarchy>classical republicanism>modern constitutionalism>democracy etc.

What has it to do with politics? Everything. Politicians piss us off, then try to misdirect our anger 'across the aisle' to people who are fundamentally exactly the same, but wear a different party label. The game is age old, but still works.

People are angry, but they are often in denial about it. They know they're angry, but they don't want to admit they're angry
