The skinny-minny look started in the 60s with Twiggy. Before the 20th Century, it was considered pleasing to be plump and a sign of wealth. Most of today's "fatness" comes from the great American diet, which is bunk and not at all healthy. And Marilyn Monroe would be considered "fat" today.

Yep. And the Keto diet is amazing. My brother is physically & mentally healthy because of it. It has helped his anxiety/depression more than anything else he has tried. He is amazing. And, a good buddy of mine has been on the Keto for 3 months & has lost 30 lbs. AND, he is in perfect health. His wife also suffers from anxiety/depression & the Keto has completely changed her mental state.

There are definitely beautiful fat people out there. First of all, fat has been seen as the very paragon of attractiveness at various times in history, so saying that it's objectively not beautiful flies in the face of evidence. But I do recognize that today it's not seen as attractive, but it is entirely possible for fat people to be attractive. I don't think it's common, though... and for me personally, if I am to find a large woman physically beautiful, a lot of factors need to be present that aren't normally in fat people. I will say that all of the photos that are going to follow in this thread are as manufactured as any other model shoots.

I'm not sure what effect the author of the OP article hoped to achieve by relating this particular anecdote. If it was shocked recoil at the interrogator's reply, then the attempt is (or should be) a complete failure. The interrogator is correct, as far as it goes. In fact, I would go even further and drop the word "necessarily." It's unfastidious, mush-brained nonsense like "all perspectives are valid" that has led directly to a world full of just the sort of insanities described in the article.

Fixed. Just how do you "lose" something you didn't have to begin with? (File in same drawer as "an increase in spending is a spending 'cut' if the increase is not as large as some other previously-only-notional-and-now-completely-irrelevant number" ...)

Apart from Renner, I've never heard of any of those people. I have no idea what they might have been in or if I've ever seen them in anything. And I only know Renner because of the Marvel/Avengers stuff. (Also, IIRC, I think he was the lead in that Jason Bourne movie that didn't have Jason Bourne in it.)

I am not sure if that is a good idea because it replaces one system of brainwashing with another, and both achieve the exact same thing, fixed habits of reaction to any figure of authority. I think his best chance is to eliminate the instruction of others, including either of us, and do it for himself.

First of all, understand that you need to have Many Goals, not just ones that suit what you want. That is usually the hardest thing to do as a parent. The way that many of the lessons that achieve the goals is often very counter intuitive, and will go completely against your instincts as a parent. Thats the basic idea of Reverse Psychology, but when that label is not clearly understood, efforts to try to apply reverse psychology can easily backfire. I am sure that you dont want to see your kid fail at all. Most parents dont. But, at the same time, most parents set their kids up to fail because they have become over protective and not letting the children learn how to cope with failures. It is one of the most important lessons any person can learn in life. Its also why there are theories out there that say that the A Student often works for the C Student. The reason for that is the C Student is used to things not working out perfectly, and having the tenacity to continue working towards a solution, while the A Student simply shuts down if things dont work out perfectly for them immediately. One critically important factor is that you have to REJECT THE GRADES OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS. I cant emphasize this enough. Everyone one is good at something. And not everyone is interested, or good at the things we are expected to be good at. Imagine yourself in school. You fail an Art class. Then you go home to your parents, and they tell you "its okay, not everyone is good at drawing or art". What that teaches is that Art itself as a focus is useless, and the level of interest you have is irrelevant because the demands of society comes first. Now, imagine you come home from school. Not your kid, but YOU. YOU failed math. You simply did not understand. You get your ass handed to you because it is considered a fundamental skill that you must excel at. The psychological consequences of this type of judgement are tremendous. It starts with creating a sense of self doubt which later leads to other major problems such as emotional dependency on authority as well as teaching that everything is hard. If you need to see the results of making children feel shame or guilt for getting poor grades in emphasized subjects, just look at the Youth of America today. Do you think they have any self esteem what so ever? Any confidence? Any ambition? A few do, but not enough to place the US as even a decent place to live any more. The Grades that your kid receives from ANY Public School MUST be taken into context of the School. Did your kid fail in school, or did School itself fail your kids? Now, your kid is good at something. And not just at texting or posting selfies. But there are other hidden dormant underlying and often undiscovered skills your kid is probably an absolute genius at. Those are what need to be found and encouraged because of the secondary lesson of "if you are good at this, what else are you good at"? That type of encouragement builds Self Esteem, Self Worth and maintains a Healthy Interest in many areas they could potentially be great at. If you only focus on the bad stuff and only what the Professionals tell you, then you are setting your kid up for failure and teaching them to undermine any Self Reliance. Fish are great at swimming. But if you teach a Fish that it is stupid based on its ability to climb a tree, then the Fish will grow up and believe it is a worthless piece of shit for the rest of its life. And that is exactly what Public School does. Your job as a parent is to offer as much incentive which turns your child into a confident and self reliant person. It is hard enough to do that, but, now that you know you have to resist the urge to accept the passing judgement of a system that sets your kid up for failure, you have twice as much work to do. We are always told to "think before we speak". That holds true even as adults. If you punish a kid for disobedience, what is the...

We're here because of a movement that started in 2007 and didn't show any signs of stopping until Rand Paul slit its throat. I don't know about you, but I'm one of the overwhelming majority of those of us who got swept up in it, who actually had our minds changed by that movement. When you doomsayers show up here and say "the current population can't handle it", what you're saying is, everyone who had their minds changed by that movement was nothing more than a fluke. You're saying that what we experienced first-hand cannot happen to others. I know it can happen because I lived it. It gets really, really tiresome hearing people say it's impossible.

That's all just foreplay. Cut the foreplay and take this to its logical conclusion. Anti-immigration types don't fundamentally believe these are people we're dealing with, so let's take advantage of that. If they're vermin, let's treat them like vermin. Cut the foreplay and just eliminate them when you find them. There is literally no faster way to "solve this problem". You don't even have to do it to anywhere near of them - just enough to make the rest leave.

Since when is the "We got a badass over here" meme "gay"? It's been all over the interwebz for many moons and it's used by all sorts of folks. There are several samples in the various "bestest picture thread evarrr"-s.
  8. The reason I have no use for monarchies is it's complete pot luck what you get. If your generation gets a Victoria, you could be in worse shape (assuming her advisors aren't lying to her about what they're doing), but if you get an Ivan the Terrible you're screwed. I prefer a system that at least holds out hope for nonviolent revolution, whether people are generally smart enough to use it or not.

And I'm pretty sure you meant neither Bismarck nor the kaiser.

You're right, I should have said the Kaiser, not Bismarck. :/ (My WWI history is rather rusty...I do remember Hitler suffered from mustard gas inhalation during that war and a bunch of other factoids) Yeah, monarchs have been somewhat fascist in certain occasions, but they always had incentive not to destroy their subjects' economy or their own respective societies as presidents and prime ministers or even legislators do. (such elected officials almost always leave office very wealthy and almost never face justice for their misdeeds) Generally speaking, the best to worst scale goes- voluntary association with government>hereditary monarchy>monarchy>classical republicanism>modern constitutionalism>democracy etc.

What has it to do with politics? Everything. Politicians piss us off, then try to misdirect our anger 'across the aisle' to people who are fundamentally exactly the same, but wear a different party label. The game is age old, but still works.

People are angry, but they are often in denial about it. They know they're angry, but they don't want to admit they're angry
