Yeah, that's not a bad example of how they work the propaganda. Humans are mostly herd animals, and propagandists are sheep dogs. Divide and conquer. College graduates buy the bull, and you want to appear educated, right? Democrats buy the bull, and you don't want to sound like a Republican, right? Dubya couldn't even put together a coherent sentence, remember? You don't want to sound like him, so buy the bull. Now we'll lop off the outliers and look at the data again. Lone wolves may be the only ones who know the truth, but isn't sticking with the herd more important? So we'll just say lopping them off the edges improves the data. Here's a fine example of the 'Safety In Numbers' propaganda the populace is bombarded with daily: A classic example. It all seems like such a reasonable little piece of sarcasm to hear thirty-six times a day, seven days a week. Be effective! Stick to your half of the herd! Don't be a voice calling in the wilderness! That's frustrating and depressing! Of course, it could also be rephrased as follows:

You're going to call a Senator and tell her to vote for an amendment to a House bill? Or you're going to tell a Senator to vote for a House bill because of an amendment that hasn't been added to it yet, without telling her to ensure it gets added first, and ensure the Senate version includes it too? Even though House members are obviously easier to persuade, because you're clearly a larger percentage if his or her constituency than a senator of an overpopulated state? Do you even know who your Rep is? Good, dannno. *pats head* Your value as an activist is on par with your ability to spot--or even define--propaganda.

Yo. Arrogant moron. He said a diesel generator providing juice to electric axle motors holds up better than a clutch and multi-ratio gearset. Or would you care to link us to the clutch--or even the torque converter--that can handle the output of a 4400 horsepower engine? And your idea of refuting that was to use the term "genset". Quick quiz, Einstein: What is the "gen" in "genset" short for? If you think it's something other than "generator", do amuse us and tell us what you think it's abbreviated from. We're all agog to hear. Or you could shut up and leave people wondering if you're an asshole, rather than removing all doubt.

Representatives Amash (R-MI) and Lofgren (D-CA) have proposed an amendment to one of the mini-omnibus bills to curb NSA domestic data reaping under 702. I can't find the specific bill, but it may be HR 2740. Anyone still interested in activism might keep and eye out for it, and might just call their representative and let them know they're being watched. I now turn this thread over to the shylls to tell us we'd rather be spied on by the NSA than lift one finger to back a California Democrat or a non-Trumpsucking Republican.

What you are is an AI bot. There is no respect, whether for enemy, friend or your idol. There is certainly no concern for your fellow man, because men are clearly not your fellows. There is only a lot of cut and paste, a lot of repetition (until you're called on it, then there's repetition of something else) a baud rate of about a million, and a post rate of a hundred a minute. And a constant repetition of your parameters. Well if Bryan wants to run a testing ground for AI bots that's his business.

I believe the term you used was witch hunt. It's your usual double standard. Judge Nap. Justin fucking Amash now, as if you're worthy to polish his shoes. Half this forum. All you do is hunt witches. You're the Spanish fucking Inquisition. You have no idea what they'll use it for. But, as we can all see, you never, ever let a little thing like a lack of ESP (or an abundance if ignorance) keep you from spouting off. Let he who never goes fishing cast the first stone. Oh, wait. Those with rocks in their head can't cast anything else.

Maybe. The House can review tax returns for legislative purposes. The possibility that Trump has been giving favors to favor seekers foreign and domestic who use the services of his hotels is certainly an area where legitimate legislation could occur. The odds of you or I being in a situation where we could sell influence in a way creative enough to warrant new legislation is remote. The reason all this is unprecedented is because every president has voluntarily released his tax returns every year since 1976. Just as Ron Paul did (which is why I made the statement you ignored that this would never have come up in a Paul presidency). The last one who figured he was too good for transparency was Nixon. Until now. And as usual, Swordshyll is mistaken. The House is not looking for anything more than his tax returns and the documents that support them. If you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe Fox. https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/justice-lawyers-fail-to-halt-trump-financial-records-release Even if the House does get them, and even if they are just digging for dirt, and even if they find it, they won't be able to show them to anyone, and won't be able to pass any ex post facto laws to snag him. So if he has good reason to keep these secrets, like he already violated existing laws, it's going to get interesting, because they presumably can't even show the proof to prosecutors. And thank you both for your concern. I and mine had no trouble from the storm. Your humane solicitude is touching.

He is refusing to release records for an audit. To do so would land you or I in jail, but a sitting president cannot be jailed. There is no possible precedent in that which could possibly help anyone but him. I would wonder why he has stopped doing what he has been doing for decades and decades. What if Ron Paul suddenly started behaving like Trump is a meaningless question to me. And there's a tornadic storm over my head, which is more of a threat to me than this repetitive and vitriolic nonsense I'm getting in this thread. So if you'll excuse me...

You seem to have pulled that from where the sun don't shine, because it has no basis in reality. Wherever you got it you may shove it back in now. And what would happen to anyone else if we refused to release records during an audit, hmmm...? Therefore he is using the Constitution to protect himself while he commits acts that would land any if the rest of us in jail, is that what you're saying? And I suppose you're going to try to spin that as not impeachable? You just painted you're ass in a corner. Whether or not you're smart enough to see it or honest enough to admit it.

I do not, and I don't appreciate the lie. One, these are records which are kept for government inspection via audit. For Trump to withhold them when he has made no attempt to relieve us from the onus of keeping them is for Trump to make a claim of protected status. American tradition has been for politicians to reveal more than the public; he wants to keep secrets none of us are allowed to keep.

You think I'm an anarchist? The message this forum is sending today is that they're doing exactly the right thing. This partisan pecker waving is energizing people, distracting people from all the problems the government is causing, rallying establishmentarians and anti-establishmentarians alike behind establishment tools, dividing and conquering. All this wailing and gnashing of teeth is music to their ears. This game is going perfectly, as far as they're concerned.

You mean the Internal Revenue Service, an Executive Branch Agency? No. Not all documentation backing up the figures on a business tax return get submitted with it; some only get kept in case of audit. Nice try at obfuscation, though. Is this the same person who is screaming that one of the most principled members of Congress is after revenge for tariffs against China because he has an interest in a company that makes things in Taiwan? Yeah, sure you wouldn't. And as for me, I never once called for Trump to release these records. And unlike you, with your RWTDS, I don't differentiate between swamp creatures like Trump and Clinton. So how would anything of the sort make someone like me? Or is it that you can't debate, and that's the best baseless attack you can come up with?

Since when is the "We got a badass over here" meme "gay"? It's been all over the interwebz for many moons and it's used by all sorts of folks. There are several samples in the various "bestest picture thread evarrr"-s.
  8. The reason I have no use for monarchies is it's complete pot luck what you get. If your generation gets a Victoria, you could be in worse shape (assuming her advisors aren't lying to her about what they're doing), but if you get an Ivan the Terrible you're screwed. I prefer a system that at least holds out hope for nonviolent revolution, whether people are generally smart enough to use it or not.

And I'm pretty sure you meant neither Bismarck nor the kaiser.

    Chancellor von Bismarck
    President von Hindenburg

That help get the rust out of your history? 'Cause those who get rusty on history are liable to re-live the bad parts...

You're right, I should have said the Kaiser, not Bismarck. :/ (My WWI history is rather rusty...I do remember Hitler suffered from mustard gas inhalation during that war and a bunch of other factoids) Yeah, monarchs have been somewhat fascist in certain occasions, but they always had incentive not to destroy their subjects' economy or their own respective societies as presidents and prime ministers or even legislators do. (such elected officials almost always leave office very wealthy and almost never face justice for their misdeeds) Generally speaking, the best to worst scale goes- voluntary association with government>hereditary monarchy>monarchy>classical republicanism>modern constitutionalism>democracy etc.

People are angry, but they are often in denial about it. They know they're angry, but they don't want to admit they're angry
