Maybe this is some much-needed good news??? White male marketing VP at North Carolina hospital wins $10million 'reverse discrimination' payout after he was replaced by two women - one of whom is black - as part of diversity and inclusion program https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10136219/White-marketing-VP-North-Carolina-hospital-wins-10million-reverse-discrimination-payout.html

Hmmm... Seems like the value of that cardboard box may go up in the coming years... You gotta make sure the government gets its share of that!

I mean, I don't disagree. There are too many people just spouting crap. I always point back to forums as the original way we communicated online, and I'm always ready to point out the deficiencies of new social media compared to this. There are no rules here. But the unofficial rules are pretty heavily regimented. Those rules have always included not being a dick, sticking to the topic, having something worthwhile to add, not spamming, etc. And there are volunteers here to keep those rules enforced. The only thing we ever had a problem with here - which is a problem among all forums - is not always knowing why people get booted eventually, and not being able to find out, and thus not knowing what the unofficial rules are. There are tons of rules on social media. But they get largely ignored. Right up to the point where you cross the site owner politically. Then an interesting thing happens: They boot you, but they don't give you a rule that you broke. Even though they are clearly published. It would appear to be a step in the right direction from what we have on forums, but they boot people the same way - unceremoniously and without feedback. Forums have social media beaten on the topic of whether people are saying too much by virtue of the fact that everyone agreed up front that saying meaningful things is why we're here and we're not putting up with garbage.

So, obviously, I'm against this. From a moral perspective and from a utilitarian perspective. But I did hear a new argument today that I haven't fully digested yet... First, why I'm opposed: The idea that this will only affect billionaires is ludicrous. If they need to take money out of their investments to give it to the government, the places where they took it out of will suffer. Secondly, it creates an even larger incentive to move their investments out of America. Third, it'll never just remain with billionaires... Fourth, it's immoral to treat people differently based on their success. I could go on and on. But here's the argument I heard... (not sure what I think about it, yet, so I'm interested in others' takes) Goes like this: "The uber-wealthy can leverage the assets they have in investments as collateral for loans. They can then use those loans as "income" to buy nice things for themselves, pay it back over time at low interest rates, but avoid all taxes - because it's not "income" it's a liability. It not only allows them to escape income taxes, but they also have a hedge against the inflation tax." Thoughts??

Well, they kind of had to. If it's not on the childhood vaccination schedule it isn't protected under the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986. If it's not covered under the act, then the vaccine manufacturers could be held legally liable for damage the vaccine causes. There are more deaths associated with the COVID vaccine than there are deaths from all other vaccines combined since 1990. There are almost as many adverse reactions from the COVID vaccines than there are from all other vaccines combined since 1990. There are almost as many permanent disabilities from COVID vaccines than there are from all other vaccines combined since 1990. https://vaersanalysis.info/2021/10/08/vaers-summary-for-covid-19-vaccines-through-10-1-2021/ Of course they're coming after our kids. If they don't, then these companies are eventually going to be smashed into a million pieces and divided up as spoils.

Reality is what they say it is. Until that reality doesn't aggregate power anymore - at which point they change it. Five years ago 'believe women' was the mantra. We were told that even if there's no evidence we should believe the woman. It culminated in the worst supreme court nomination process in US history - something finally topped Bork and Thomas, and by a lot. And it involved a Swiss-cheese story with holes so big you could sail a cargo ship through. Fast forward to today, and an underage girl gets raped in a public school bathroom, and they not only don't believe her, but they cover it up and move the rapist to another place where he does it again. I'm preaching the gospel far and wide of 'stop fucking trying to understand them'.

I think your use of the English language is typical of the white patriarchy. Words are just a way to vocalize feelings and if the feelings feel like rape or sexual assault, that is what they mean. You better check your privilege.

Since when is the "We got a badass over here" meme "gay"? It's been all over the interwebz for many moons and it's used by all sorts of folks. There are several samples in the various "bestest picture thread evarrr"-s.
  8. The reason I have no use for monarchies is it's complete pot luck what you get. If your generation gets a Victoria, you could be in worse shape (assuming her advisors aren't lying to her about what they're doing), but if you get an Ivan the Terrible you're screwed. I prefer a system that at least holds out hope for nonviolent revolution, whether people are generally smart enough to use it or not.

And I'm pretty sure you meant neither Bismarck nor the kaiser.

    Chancellor von Bismarck
    President von Hindenburg

That help get the rust out of your history? 'Cause those who get rusty on history are liable to re-live the bad parts...

You're right, I should have said the Kaiser, not Bismarck. :/ (My WWI history is rather rusty...I do remember Hitler suffered from mustard gas inhalation during that war and a bunch of other factoids) Yeah, monarchs have been somewhat fascist in certain occasions, but they always had incentive not to destroy their subjects' economy or their own respective societies as presidents and prime ministers or even legislators do. (such elected officials almost always leave office very wealthy and almost never face justice for their misdeeds) Generally speaking, the best to worst scale goes- voluntary association with government>hereditary monarchy>monarchy>classical republicanism>modern constitutionalism>democracy etc.

What has it to do with politics? Everything. Politicians piss us off, then try to misdirect our anger 'across the aisle' to people who are fundamentally exactly the same, but wear a different party label. The game is age old, but still works.

People are angry, but they are often in denial about it. They know they're angry, but they don't want to admit they're angry
