Not previously but the results are pretty interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_F-15EX_Eagle_II That's over 100 million per, and getting close to the (purely imaginary) cost of an F-35. Ridiculous. Something very, very rotten going on there. In every other historical case where a third party takes up a military design and starts producing it, they find cost saving measures as a way to try to undercut the original designer and that's how they line their pockets. But now they're spending almost twice what the original inflation adjusted cost of an F-15 was. That's still over $100 million per plane! The original run of the F-16 was like $13 million. With zero cost saving measures that should be $40 million today.

Yeah I've been looking forward to this ever since he got involved in this effort. The only reason the F-35 has gotten as far as it has is because the designers have bullshitted everyone with technobabble. Musk is exactly the right guy to question this. I'm really looking forward to the time when someone openly accuses him of not knowing what he's talking about. Should be a good show.

They wanted that jet to replace the F/A18, the F15, the A10 Warthog (my fav), and the Harrier. I always say, "the right tool for the right job". They wanted the F35 to be the right tool for EVERY job. Just dumb. It becomes less than ideal for every job. And the costs are crazy!

Everything is OK ... ... except my computer, for a while. (That's why no RPFs or Twitter posts.) The thing just shut down on me without warning back on the 9th of November. I couldn't get it to start again, so I figured something on my motherboard might have fried. I have a spare somewhere (as well as another CPU), but I wasn't in any mood to dig it up, disassemble my PC, and reassemble it. So I just decided to take a few days off. Turned out I liked doing that so much, I decided to go ahead and wait until after Thanksgiving to bother with trying to get things up and running again. And so, here I am ...

Well, they can now compel Hunter to testify under threat of perjury... If they actually wanted to uncover the corrupt system, it wouldn't take that long at all. But since none of them have an interest in uncovering it, we all know this doesn't even get started.

You know, if there's one thing we can be 100% certain of, it's that Trump is going to do what he's going to do regardless how you feel about it. And if there's a second thing we can be 100% certain of, it's that you're going to show up no later than post #4 in the thread pointing out the betrayal to school us all on how him doing the exact opposite of what he said is in fact actually what he said he was going to do.

Making drugs illegal was cover for much larger problems. Nobody I knew who was doing drugs 30 years ago had a great relationship with their parents. And none of them fit into the social hierarchies in school. The fundamental message going out to young people was 'we do not respect you as an individual and if you don't conform you're going to live a life of hardship'. And tack on 'oh yeah you're also going to spend half your waking hours in a literal prison that you're not allowed to leave and your movements will be super regulated and you will exercise when you're told and you will cheer when we tell you to cheer'. The only thing surprising about how this turned out is that people are still surprised at it. I was out of school less than 10 years when Columbine happened, and all the potheads I was hanging out with all went "well, DUH". And now we all have homeschooled kids and our message to them is 'we respect you as people and are trying to help you make decisions that will set you up to be happy first, and to find success where you can'. And all of these homeschooled kids have heard about Warren V DC, Deshaney V Winnebago County, and Castle Rock V Gonzales. They may not have them memorized but unlike our generation, they do tend to place importance on the things their parents think are important. So they know the authorities are operating under false pretenses by even suggesting that the point of analyzing your waste has anything to do with anything apart from subjugation.

My brother recently compelled me to watch this retrospective of Firefly because the presenter makes a damned good point. Of course we didn't get the conclusion that the show deserved (after about 10 seasons) but the primary reason it doesn't work today is because 20 years ago the writers were operating from a headspace where governments still had some sense of shame. They wrote stories with the understanding that the state had to keep up appearances and would go to pretty great lengths to cover up the fact that it had done horrible things. "Collateral Murder" was released 14 years ago. Nobody cared. The only response was to try to identify who leaked it and punish him. Before that, our tax dollars were literally paying for boy rape parties in Afghanistan. Still nobody cares. Trump already had every reason anyone ever needed to declare that he was going to be dismantling the FBI and returning all of its constitutional responsibilities to the entities that handled them prior to 1908. But we're not getting that - we're getting replacement, and continuation. Biden signed the pardon now because he doesn't give a shit because nobody else gives a shit. We're in Frank Zappa's late stage illusion of freedom and all people want is for some of the scenery to go back on stage. Nobody wants actual change. They just want the illusion back. Including you. Because who cares, really, if it's now or on January 19th? The only reason to care is because you know the main problem with doing it now is that the illusion of freedom is further shattered, and that's what matters the most to everyone. We all assume it's going to happen. We just don't want to know.

I think a lot of that has much more to do with the facts that: 1) Back then women actually put forth an effort to BE attractive, and 2) Nowadays a great many women try very hard to be UNattractive. If you add to that the fact that the attitudes and beliefs held by many women today tend to render them unattractive regardless of any pure physical beauty they may possess, and well…

Since when is the "We got a badass over here" meme "gay"? It's been all over the interwebz for many moons and it's used by all sorts of folks. There are several samples in the various "bestest picture thread evarrr"-s.
  8. The reason I have no use for monarchies is it's complete pot luck what you get. If your generation gets a Victoria, you could be in worse shape (assuming her advisors aren't lying to her about what they're doing), but if you get an Ivan the Terrible you're screwed. I prefer a system that at least holds out hope for nonviolent revolution, whether people are generally smart enough to use it or not.

And I'm pretty sure you meant neither Bismarck nor the kaiser.

    President von Hindenburg

You're right, I should have said the Kaiser, not Bismarck. :/ (My WWI history is rather rusty...I do remember Hitler suffered from mustard gas inhalation during that war and a bunch of other factoids) Yeah, monarchs have been somewhat fascist in certain occasions, but they always had incentive not to destroy their subjects' economy or their own respective societies as presidents and prime ministers or even legislators do. (such elected officials almost always leave office very wealthy and almost never face justice for their misdeeds) Generally speaking, the best to worst scale goes- voluntary association with government>hereditary monarchy>monarchy>classical republicanism>modern constitutionalism>democracy etc.

What has it to do with politics? Everything. Politicians piss us off, then try to misdirect our anger 'across the aisle' to people who are fundamentally exactly the same, but wear a different party label. The game is age old, but still works.

People are angry, but they are often in denial about it. They know they're angry, but they don't want to admit they're angry
