I’m sure the people of East Timor, by some estimates as many as a third of were wiped out bu Suharto’s genocidal invasion and occupation which Carter fully supported with arms and other aid, will be ecstatic that he’s lived so long.

It'll get closed no matter what frontman gets picked. They save the unsustainable, destructive crap for election years. I'm thinking at this point that the last election in which the public had any say for a federal seat was 2000. Totalitarianism is already here. And the screws are tightening. WWIII would make it all moot, of course. Israel is trying to start it, and neither candidate will stop it.

When the NG conducts relief efforts water support is part of the main support. Ice delivery and bottled water. I have never seen anything like providing tablets and filtering devices, but that makes a lot of sense.

Please let this be true. A tar-and-feathering (optionally followed by a running-out-of-town-on-a-rail) is probably too much to hope for. But this would be a start ... "People should not be afraid of their governments; governments should be afraid of their people."

You are welcome, comrade! Voting hard is the most powerful tool in our arsenal, and the urge to deploy it in conjunction with other tried-and-true weapons (such as SWLODs) is a mighty (indeed, nigh irresistible) temptation - but for the sake of Our Democracy, which is fragile and likely cannot withstand such potent combinations, we must restrain ourselves, lest we destroy that which we hope to salvage. Let us instead endeavor to keep our minds upon our labors, and to leave matters of the State to the State.

See my post about FEMA roadblocking some private aid. Before I deliver this I would at least do some planning and damage control so you don't get F'd. Attorney I know who is a big freedom advocate is tracking private aid getting confiscated, destroyed or turned away by authorities and the institutions on the ground....

I just got advised by a friend of mine that the only support getting through to victims is from Church based organizations. If it's private groups delivering aid, FEMA is turning away confiscating or destroying the aid. Any more confirmations?

Yeah this is fucking madness. I want to believe its all bluster but I'm not rolling the dice on this. I don't believe he is driven by any other philosophy other than an alpha male, kick their ass, American..... but we don't need that kind of locker room jock strap machismo in foreign policy....and if he truly is compromised by Israel lobby, that just makes it more probable. I liked the 2016 Trump better that used that Big Dick energy and negotiated with leaders of Nation states to make the deal they couldn't refuse.

The objectively correct thing to say would have been "Biden doesn't even know a hurricane just destroyed a bunch of three states of the country he's supposed to be president of". Why use this to react with hyper aggression? This is the reason I don't like Trump - when you can get him to calm TF down and discuss things rationally he's open to policies that aren't batshit insane, but that's not his default mode. He has no filter and if he has no filter it means he's constantly making snap judgments and not taking a minute to think things through. I don't know about the rest of you but I get a lot more meaningful work done if I take five extra seconds to think about what I'm doing and be sure it's the right path. And it's obvious he suffers from the same problems as when I don't, and he seems oblivious to it. People who get into their 70s without recognizing major character flaws like that should be pitied, not put in leadership positions.

Since when is the "We got a badass over here" meme "gay"? It's been all over the interwebz for many moons and it's used by all sorts of folks. There are several samples in the various "bestest picture thread evarrr"-s.
  8. The reason I have no use for monarchies is it's complete pot luck what you get. If your generation gets a Victoria, you could be in worse shape (assuming her advisors aren't lying to her about what they're doing), but if you get an Ivan the Terrible you're screwed. I prefer a system that at least holds out hope for nonviolent revolution, whether people are generally smart enough to use it or not.

And I'm pretty sure you meant neither Bismarck nor the kaiser.

    President von Hindenburg

That help get the rust out of your history? 'Cause those who get rusty on history are liable to re-live the bad parts...

You're right, I should have said the Kaiser, not Bismarck. :/ (My WWI history is rather rusty...I do remember Hitler suffered from mustard gas inhalation during that war and a bunch of other factoids) Yeah, monarchs have been somewhat fascist in certain occasions, but they always had incentive not to destroy their subjects' economy or their own respective societies as presidents and prime ministers or even legislators do. (such elected officials almost always leave office very wealthy and almost never face justice for their misdeeds) Generally speaking, the best to worst scale goes- voluntary association with government>hereditary monarchy>monarchy>classical republicanism>modern constitutionalism>democracy etc.

What has it to do with politics? Everything. Politicians piss us off, then try to misdirect our anger 'across the aisle' to people who are fundamentally exactly the same, but wear a different party label. The game is age old, but still works.

People are angry, but they are often in denial about it. They know they're angry, but they don't want to admit they're angry
