No, not abolish it!
As some of you may know, I'm no fan of democracy (to put it mildly), but if we must have it (and it seems we must at least for a foreseeable future), then perhaps we can improve it? Here are some ideas.
1. The main source of bad policy (economic policy esp.), IMO, is the need for politicians to get re-elected; i.e. they support policies which they know hurt the country for the benefit of groups (whether voters or donors) whose support they need to get re-elected. To solve this problem, let us have single term limits. No possibility of re-election = no corrupt behavior for the purpose of getting re-elected.
