As a result the city of San Antonio, TX having an ordinance that violates Texas state law that clearly allows the open carry of long guns (rifles, shotguns, etc) a protest was held October 19th 2013 at 10am at the Alamo.

Estimated number of attending protesters: 600-800

The event was encouraged by a number of different groups, most notably "the OathKeepers", Blogger Mike Vanderboegh, and Alex Jones. On the Oathkeepers website they list some of the other groups that helped organize as well as spoke at the event:

    Open Carry Texas
    DontComply
    Texas Carry
    Come and Take It

After all the speaking was done the entire group engaged in some peaceful civil disobedience. Without "permission" or "permits" and at the frustration of the SAPD the entire group of armed protesters politely (we observed traffic signals) marched to Travis park 2.5 blocks away. North on Alamo plaza, west on East Houston, then north on Jefferson. We then engaged in a bit more speechin' at which point, many folks with tired ears began to slowly disembark. LoL. Me included.

One of the more interesting moments happened while we were leaving - Out of blacked out SAPD suburbon the SAPD police chief, William McManus, appeared with big cheeky grin while hollering out toward us - "Hey is that guy with y'all", while gesturing towards a man in a Darth Vador custume, "Bob" from New Mexico quipped back, "NO, he's on your team, the dark side." Everybody started laughing. LoL.

I cannot verify that the SAPD personnel was in fact William McManus. However I was walking right next to Bob when it happened and saw the entire exchange.

Overall it was a big success! A great second Am Rally. In fact I'll have to say it was the best that I have ever personally witnessed. It felt very empowering. Its was a real motivating experience.
