    The price of a car just got WAY more expensive

    The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a proposed rule Monday requiring all new light vehicles — including cars, SUVs, trucks and vans — to have "rear-view visibility systems," in effect, requiring backup cameras.

    The rule -- which would be final in 60 days -- would start phasing in on May 1, 2016 models and be at 100% May 1, 2018.

    More Christie staffers implicated in scandal

    As the fallout swirled last week over revelations that Gov. Christie's aides and appointees created a series of massive traffic jams in an apparent act of political punishment, the question remained: How close did the scandal get to Christie?

    The Republican governor, who fired a top aide and dismissed a close political adviser Thursday after previously denying any involvement by his staff, has maintained he was unaware of any wrongdoing until Wednesday - when e-mails were disclosed suggesting political motives for gridlock in the Bergen County borough of Fort Lee. Two access lanes to the George Washington Bridge were closed starting Sept. 9 without warning to local officials.

    A much larger cache of documents released Friday indicates several members of the governor's inner circle - including press secretary Michael Drewniak and newly appointed chief of staff Regina Egea - were involved as early as September in communications about the traffic.

    Drewniak and Egea were sent e-mails the week of the lane closures by David Wildstein and Bill Baroni, two Christie appointees to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey who oversaw the lane closures.

    Turn-key tyranny: a list of how our government can abuse the spy programs

    So I've been reading a lot about what the programs do and all about Ed Snowden, but I've read very little about what Snowden feared would happen if the programs don't stop; "turn-key tyranny".

    Let's discuss all the possible ways (its going to be a long list) the NSA/government could abuse this program.

    Here's what I have so far:

    • A threat to a free press: The programs could be used to silence journalists through blackmail, one must ask if Watergate would have been exposed if Nixon had access to Prism/phone call monitoring?
    • A threat to our democracy: the information could be used to expose dirt or medical records of would-be representatives.
    • The programs could be used to track all public opinion in the country, giving unfair advantages to elected representatives.
    • NSA agents can track all major business deals, allowing a nefarious government to attempt playing God in the private sector.
    • Along the same lines: NSA/government agents can sell information about secret business deals to competitors.
    • As Snowden noted, the programs could be mistakenly or intentionally used by the NSA to persecute an innocent person-- over a long period of time anyone can be made out to be a wrongdoer.
