You may be a highly paid, big-shot football player, but not to the TSA. Everyone is a mundane at their checkpoint.

Los Angeles police arrested San Francisco 49ers defensive end Aldon Smith at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday afternoon after he indicated he was in possession of a bomb.

Smith was booked Sunday afternoon, according to LAPD Sgt. Michael Fox.
According to Los Angeles police public information officer Karla Ortiz, the incident happened as the man later identified as Smith was going through Terminal 1 screening and was randomly selected for secondary screening.

Smith then became belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent, making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding toward the gate area, according to Ortiz.

Los Angeles Airport Police made contact with him at the gate and he then became uncooperative again and was detained and taken into custody by Airport Police.

Many people on the scene, including former Marine veteran Clayton Mullaly, captured the incident on video.

Buying elections is so out in the open these days...

Through his political advocacy firm, FWD.us, billionaire Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is now playing a role in GOP primaries.

Starting Tuesday, Zuckerberg’s FWD.us’s “Americans for a Conservative Direction” arm—a group aimed at trying to help Republicans stave off conservative opposition to amnesty—is spending $150,000 to help Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) fight off primary challenger Frank Roche after she stumbled through an interview on Laura Ingraham’s radio program last week.
Zuckerberg’s decision to get involved in GOP primaries is not surprising, though this appears to be the first time his group is playing on that field. FWD.us has run ads backing pro-amnesty GOP lawmakers, ranging from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) to House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO), among others.

Ex-RT Anchor Liz Wahl's Neoconservative Connection

Liz Wahl's recent on-air resignation stunt from Russia Today Television (RT) was blatant self-promotion, which boiled down to nothing more than a declaration that Russia Today comes from a Russian perspective. Thank you "Captain Obvious". Apparently Wahl did not make that connection before taking the job. If media spin, objectivity and extreme pushing of agendas is a major concern for Wahl, someone better break the news to her about the mainstream media before she takes a job at CNN.

It should also come as no surprise to anyone with an in-depth knowledge of American politics that Liz Wahl's "disgruntled" employee statement had a decidedly neoconservative slant. This leads to ...

The Central Bankers have conquered the Ukraine, and now it is time to reap the rewards. Following in the footsteps of Italy and Greece, the Ukraine will borrow far more money than it can pay back, in exchange for austerity measures which will boil-down to squeezing the Ukrainians and their economy for every bit of wealth possible. It will be a redistribution of wealth, from the peons to the Central Bankers. Debt is the drug, Central Bankers are the dealers, and politicians are the addicts. The common man is the grape that must be squeezed to produce wine for the elite.

First off, a little background on the Greek situation. In 2011, under "emergency" circumstances, Former European Central Bank vice-president Lucas Papademos was named Greece's Prime Minister. ...

Crimea is often called a peninsula, but it would be much better described as an island, with a few narrow land bridges. Over the centuries, it has been autonomous, or conquered and ruled by many different nations and empires, making it ethnically diverse.

It was declared an "autonomous republic" and part of the Soviet Union in 1921, at the end of the Bolshevik revolution. Conquered by Nazi Germany in WWII, subsequently, after the war, it was reduced in stature to the Crimean Russian province (Oblast). In 1954, the province was transferred to become a province of Ukraine. In 1991, it once again became an autonomous republic.

It appears that under the current circumstances, the Crimean Parliament has decided to hold a referendum on independence.

Buffett bragging about crony corporatist backroom deals. The vast majority of the "deals" during the housing crisis were taken by insiders. The biggest ones apparently for people like Buffett.

If there is one mantra in these backrooms, it's that the open, competitive markets must be avoided at all costs. The government buys assets for face value from banksters after a collapse, and then sells them for pennies on the dollar to Wall St cronies. The free market is avoided like the plague.

The second-richest American, Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett, has given the March 17 issue of Fortune magazine an excerpt of his forthcoming annual letter to investors. The tale of two successful Buffett purchases is illuminating, but not quite in the way Buffett intends.

The Fortune editors have run it out under the headline, “Buffett’s annual letter: What you can learn from my real estate investments.”

Buffett writes that the purchases — a 400-acre farm in Nebraska and a retail property in Manhattan “adjacent to New York University” — “illustrate certain fundamentals of investing.”
They’re all more or less unobjectionable, but they also both overlook one important point that both real estate investments had in common — Buffett bought them from the American government, i.e., from us taxpayers, at prices that turned out in retrospect to be ridiculously cheap.

Buffett’s letter discloses that he bought the Nebraska farm from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in 1986. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), part of the federal government, had gotten it from a bank that it took over.

And Buffett and his partners bought the New York City property in 1993 from the Resolution Trust Corp., a government agency created to, as Buffett put it, “dispose of the assets of failed savings institutions.”

The next step is fairly obvious. Will Congress start to make their votes secret?

In a major departure from procedure during Wednesday’s climactic vote on suspending the federal debt limit, the Senate kept some senators’ votes secret while the nearly hourlong tally was under way — a move that has drawn sharp criticism from Capitol Hill reporters.

The stakes for Wednesday’s vote were as high as they come, with the full faith and credit of the United States, the political future of Republican leaders and another government shutdown showdown on the line.

On an average day, any C-SPAN viewer would know how senators voted in real time because votes are read aloud. (See our post on the six senators who appear to have changed their votes.)

But on Wednesday, the clerks did not name names. Instead of announcing the rolling vote tally as the vote went along on the critical motion to limit debate on the debt limit measure, senators were allowed to cast their votes in relative secrecy. Overlooked at the time, it has since caught the attention of numerous reporters.

After organizations representing journalists complained and a few hours after this story was published, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s spokesman Adam Jentleson gave CQ Roll Call a statement explaining the switch.

“After the vote began, it was quickly clear that Republican leaders were struggling to deliver enough votes to clear the 60-vote hurdle upon which they had insisted instead of a simple majority, and a potentially catastrophic default suddenly seemed possible. At Senate Republicans’ request, the clerk did not call the names during the vote to make it easier for Republican leaders to convince their members to switch their votes,” he said.

“Shortly after filing IRS forms to establish 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) tax exempt organizations, an assortment of federal entities including law enforcement agencies and a Congressman from Maryland, Elijah Cummings came knocking at my door. In nearly two decades of running our small business, my husband and I never dealt with any government agency, outside of filing our annual tax returns. We had never been audited, we had never been investigated, but all that changed upon submitting applications for the non profit statuses of True the Vote and King Street Patriots. Since that filing in 2010, my private businesses, my nonprofit organizations, and family have been subjected to more than 15 instances of audit or inquiry by federal agencies.”

How the GOP Sold Out Middle America for Corporate America
    By Patrick J. Buchanan • January 31, 2014

Out of the Republican retreat on Maryland’s Eastern shore comes word that the House leadership is raising the white flag of surrender on immigration. The GOP will agree to halt the deportation of 12 million illegal aliens, and sign on to a blanket amnesty. It only asks that the 12 million not be put on a path to citizenship. Sorry, but losers do not dictate terms. Rich Trumka of the AFL-CIO says amnesty is no longer enough. Illegal aliens must be put on a path to citizenship and given green cards to work—and join unions.

Rep. Paul Ryan and the Wall Street Journal are for throwing in the towel. Legalize them all and start them on the path to citizenship. A full and final capitulation. Let’s get it over with. To understand why and how the Republican Party lost Middle America, and faces demographic death, we need to go back to Bush I.

At the Cold War’s end, the GOP reached a fork in the road. The determination of Middle Americans to preserve the country they grew up in, suddenly collided with the profit motive of Corporate America. The Fortune 500 wanted to close factories in the USA and ship production abroad—where unions did not exist, regulations were light, taxes were low, and wages were a fraction of what they were here in America. Corporate America was going global and wanted to be rid of its American work force, the best paid on earth, and replace it with cheap foreign labor. While manufacturing sought to move production abroad, hotels, motels, bars, restaurants, farms, and construction companies that could not move abroad also wanted to replace their expensive American workers.

Thanks to the Republican Party, Corporate America got it all.

No soup for you! (Unless the cook is wearing gloves).

Chefs hate new law requiring them to wear gloves: 'It's terrible'

The gloves are off! But they should be on, says the state of California. Many chefs are up in arms about having to wear gloves while cooking, in accordance with a new food safety law that goes into effect over the next six months.

The new law bans bare-handed contact with many kinds of foods, but some chefs say the law is confusing, ineffective, bad for the environment and can compromise a final dish.

Under new food safety law, bartenders have to wear gloves

Chefs aren't the only ones affected by*a new food safety law*that bans culinary workers from touching certain foods with their bare hands. Like chefs, bartenders have to wear gloves or use other utensils to make their drinks. No touching ice, fruit garnishes or anything else that goes directly into your glass.

As she left the stage, before she'd even had a chance to take her microphone off, a man approached her and introduced himself as an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He then proceeded to "casually" ask if she'd be willing to install a backdoor into Wickr that would allow the FBI to retrieve information.
