25 officers for a population of 168? Sounds like heaven.

On the second day of her dream vacation on exclusive Bald Head Island, Julie Mall went with her family to the beach to catch the sunset. Her 11-year-old son asked to drive the golf cart back to their $1,000-a-day rented cottage.

It was dusk, no traffic on the path and his father would sit next to him. A two-block, 30-second ride. She said sure. What could go wrong?

In the next four hours, Mall says she was pinned to the ground by police, repeatedly accused of being drunk, frogmarched barefoot aboard a ferry in handcuffs, jailed in leg irons and charged with child abuse.

Mall’s case, which occurred on a laid-back luxury resort island where golf carts take the place of automobiles, is a example of how an encounter with police can spiral out of control even in the most idyllic of settings.

So a guy saved up, didn't spend lavishly, and tried to become an entrepreneur following the american dream to start a business but had it all vanish once the gov't started sniffing around.

Nicholas Marrocco says he kept hundreds of thousands of dollars in a shoebox, in his clothing and even in a bowl in his home in west suburban Wood Dale.

He says he’d messed up his credit in college and couldn’t get a bank account, so he squirreled away the money he’d earned at a pizza joint.

But Marrocco says he lost his life savings on Dec. 6, 2002, when federal drug agents at Union Station in Chicago seized more than $101,000 from a friend he entrusted with the money in their hunt for a restaurant venture on the West Coast.

Federal authorities say they suspected Marrocco and the friend were in the narcotics business.

More than 13 years later, Marrocco — who insists he and his pal weren’t drug dealers — is still fighting to get his money back. He points out they weren’t charged with a crime, and no drugs were ever recovered.

Marrocco’s attorney, Stephen Komie, and a federal source both say they believe Marrocco’s case is the longest-running asset forfeiture battle in U.S. District Court in Chicago.

You thought $500 was a lot of money for wasting water on your lawn. Well, Gov'nr aint messin around no more. We wants the threat of $10K fines. Which would only be used for the worst offenders of course.

Imagine how many warrants would start going out for all the people with unpaid water fines. But it's STILL A FREE COUNTRY!!!!!!!

Gov. Jerry Brown wants to fine big water wasters up to $10,000 per day, one of two new efforts he announced Tuesday to battle California’s drought.

The higher penalties would be a sharp increase from the current $500 maximum that local water districts can now impose on residents and businesses.

I did not know this. There are MORE RESTRICTIONS in USA to purchase a Tesla than in China. If you live in one of these 5 states, Tesla's are banned. Arizona, Texas, Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey. Texas!?!? Even freedom loving Texas!?!

So Tesla isn't playing along with the dealerships and has decided to cut out the middle man. Haven't we gone beyond the dealership sales model??? Isn't it archaic? Tesla sets up their own sales shop. Those are banned in 5 states and restricted in a few others:

Any devotee of TV crime dramas or police procedural shows hears the phrase regularly. But new court decisions in recent years have chipped away at that principle.

Take the case of California resident Richard Tom. In 2007, he broadsided a car, injuring a girl and killing her sister. At the accident scene, he asked to go home but was told no. He wasn't handcuffed, but police held him in the back of a police car. At no point did he ask the police about the victims. ...

It's hard to read this whole thing.
    ---------
In an extraordinary rebuke of the New York City Department of Correction, the federal government said on Monday that the department had systematically violated the civil rights of male teenagers held at Rikers Island by failing to protect them from the rampant use of unnecessary and excessive force by correction officers.

The office of Preet Bharara, the United States attorney in Manhattan, released its findings in a graphic 79-page report that described a “deep-seated culture of violence” against youthful inmates at the jail complex, perpetrated by guards who operated with little fear of punishment.

The report, addressed to Mayor Bill de Blasio and two other senior city officials, singled out for blame a “powerful code of silence” among the Rikers staff, along with a virtually useless system for investigating attacks by guards. The result was a “staggering” number of injuries among youthful inmates, the report said.

The report, which comes at a time of increasing scrutiny of the jail complex after a stream of revelations about Rikers’s problems, also found that the department relied to an “excessive and inappropriate” degree on solitary confinement to punish teenage inmates, placing them in punitive segregation, as the practice is known, for months at a time.

Although the federal investigation focused only on the three Rikers jails that house male inmates aged 16 to 18, the report said the problems that were identified “may exist in equal measure” in the complex’s seven other jails for adult men and women.

It's long, the article has some decent pictures. He makes some interesting points about the MIC and media plants. I've never heard of "resisting a merchant". I think his idea that it wasn't a robbery or theft is a bit nitpicking. Brown may be a thug or a criminal or guilty of petty theft or a misdemeanor. That still doesn't justify getting pumped full of lead when he's unarmed 35 feet away.

    http://anonhq.com/the-emerging-police-state/

So I set out to research and report my findings on the impending police state in America. I’ll get to this momentarily, however I feel the need to touch upon a few housekeeping items first. We’ll start with my background. I was a police officer for the better part of a decade. I hold degrees in Public Administration, Law Enforcement and have a couple thousand hours of training in everything from defensive tactics, active shooter, riot control and dozens of other law enforcement topics. That’s as much as I can reveal and remain anonymous at the moment. Needless to say, I have a unique perspective on police politics and the direction it appears that we as a nation are heading, in reference to the militarization of civilian police forces. It is a complex issue and cannot be fully explained in a single sitting. The social, political, financial, ethical and specific situational factors are all connected and important relationships here often go overlooked. All are pieces of a much larger puzzle that we must recognize and incorporate if solutions to problems are to be found. You’ll find I speak quite vaguely at times but for good reason. The fundamental problems we are having all relate to communication, understanding, compassion and empathy between us and those who we find ourselves oppressed by. It’s a two way street. That is all we have ever asked for. That is all we strive for. When you have these things, the trust and freedom that we all want will follow. I digress, however I hope to touch upon these topics in the future.

I cannot proceed without first talking about the elephant in the room; Ferguson. I still have friends at the police department where I started my career. I have discussed with them at great lengths, both sides of the situation. As at the time we did not have all the facts, much of the conversations were more philosophical in nature. There is no doubt about it. This situation sucks. I know what it’s like to be in a situation that jumps off and you feel your heart thump like it’s in your throat. Trust me, cops get scared. ... I just completed my 2 weeks in the place referred by some authorities as the war zone.

Just a few thoughts on the place I used to call home. My last few trips have been 4-5 day trips back to the US, so they were a blur. Between the 14 hour flights, 1-2 days of activities, and flight back, I couldn't function much.

This is the first time in 3 years I spent a signification chunk of time back in the U.S. And there was something odd that seemed out of place that I don't remember growing up.

    There were police, EVERYWHERE.

We talk about it, but for the first time I actually noticed it. The number of cops or cop cars I saw was so high I lost count. After 20 I couldn't keep track, it may have been 40..I don't know, it was a lot.

Is this the first step the begins crashing of the Dollar???
    http://scgnews.com/russia-china-bank...blow-to-dollar

Russia, China Banking Deal to Exclude Dollar in Transactions - Symbolic Blow to Dollar

During Putin's two day visit in Shanghai, Russia and China took another small step to undermine U.S. monetary hegemony when Russia’s second biggest financial institution, VTB, signed a deal with the Bank of China to bypass the dollar and pay each other in domestic currencies.

Many experts are referring to the move as symbolic. The banking deal is very small in the scheme of things, however it is a signal of intent. Both China and Russia are looking to a future where the U.S. dollar is no longer the world reserve currency, and they aren't content to wait for that future to arrive. They are working to help it along.

While this particular banking deal may not be incredibly significant in and of itself, there is another deal that is in the works that could have a much wider impact. According to Reuters, the BRICS block (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) aim to finish preparations for a new international development bank by this July. The bank, which has been in the works for several years now, aims to provide an alternative to the IMF (The United States is currently the dominant shareholder of the IMF).

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-0...s-largest-bank

Slowly - but surely - the USD's hegemony is being chipped away whether by foreign policy faux pas, crossed red-lines, or economic fragility. However, on Day 1 of Vladimir Putin's trip to China it is clear that the two nations are as close as ever. VTB - among Russia's largest banks - has signed a deal with Bank of China to pay each other in domestic currencies, bypassing the need for US Dollars for "investment banking, inter-bank lending, trade finance and capital-markets transactions." Kirill Dmitriyev the head of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund notes, "together it’ll be possible to discuss investment in various projects much more efficiently and clearly," as Russia's pivot to Asia continues to gather steam. Here we go with another CASH and GRAB police department. Looks like this is a becoming a nationwide trend. Won't be long before every highway is going to have cash grab stops.

    Drug Search: CHECK
    DUI test: CHECK
    DNA Sample: CHECK
    CASH on hand: CHECK

Get ready. When you get pulled over you're going to be handing over your blood and if you happen to have enough cash to cause "suspicion" that's going to be gone and any other valuables that might be in your car. And you will be told if you don't comply you will be beaten or caged or both.

    https://news.yahoo.com/rural-nevada-...184700249.html

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (AP) — A rural Nevada sheriff is defending the practice of stopping suspected drug traffickers on U.S. Interstate 80 and confiscating tens of thousands of dollars even if no criminal charges are filed.

Reports that two men had filed lawsuits in federal court against the county stirred concerns among Humboldt County residents that deputies are making illegal searches and seizures along I-80 in the high desert near Winnemucca about 165 miles east of Reno.

Humboldt County Sheriff Ed Kilgore said he can't discuss case details, but he wants to assure residents the stops are legal and not intended to shake down unsuspecting visitors. He said that civil forfeitures are legal if an arresting officer suspects the individual obtained — or intends to use — the money illegally.

"What I'm hearing on the street is that we stop you and ask you for your license, registration and your insurance, and how much money do you have? That simply is not how it is ever done," he said at a sheriff's open house he hosted Tuesday night that attracted about 40 people to the Winnemucca Convention Center.

The federal plaintiffs from California and Colorado tell strikingly similar stories about their stops near Winnemucca in September and December. No drugs were found or arrests made, but both say they were told they'd be released with their vehicles only if they forfeited their cash in violation of their constitutional rights.

One gave up a briefcase filled with $50,000 cash, and the other handed over $13,800 and a handgun, their lawsuits contend.

More than 100 former police officers, firefighters and other city workers are accused of faking mental disabilities in order to get tens of thousands of dollars in Social Security benefits each year, authorities announced Tuesday.

The former workers who claimed they could barely take care of themselves were, in fact, pursuing activities like jet skiing, fishing, shopping, playing basketball and even working in other jobs, prosecutors said.

    ...

Many also allegedly claimed to be affected by their efforts on 9/11, yet investigators found many were not even near ground zero that day.

The group accused Tuesday includes 72 former cops, eight former firefighters, five ex-correction officers and one officer from the Nassau County Police Department. But prosecutors say there are hundreds more, and that indictments in this case have just begun.

All allegedly got help gaming the system from the same two lawyers and two former police officers who allegedly took cash payments.

Just a training routine...Oops, there goes a 36 foot $10 million plane crashing into Earth.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nati...ommentpostform

FORT DRUM, N.Y. — The New York Air National Guard asked the U.S. Air Force on Wednesday for help in finding a multimillion-dollar military drone that crashed into Lake Ontario a day earlier.

The Syracuse-based 174th Attack Wing asked the Air Force to send an HC-130 search aircraft to look for the missing MQ-9 Reaper, according to Eric Durr, a spokesman for the New York state Division of Military and Naval Affairs, based in suburban Albany.

The cause of the crash during a training flight is being investigated.

The unmanned aircraft took off from Wheeler Sack Army Airfield at Fort Drum in northern New York and crashed early Tuesday afternoon in eastern Lake Ontario.

The area where it crashed is about 12 miles from the lake’s eastern shore and 35 miles from Fort Drum, home to the Army’s 10th Mountain Division.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and vessel looked for the aircraft Tuesday, but that search was called off because of bad weather.
