If the people who are disturbed by their own latent desires would just do battle with their own latent desires, rather than deciding that those who share those desires and give in to them are the enemy, then libs like the one in the OP wouldn't have a leg to stand on. He wouldn't be discriminated against, and therefore there would be no problem to solve. And when he proposed this sort of radical solution to the non-problem, he would be laughed at, and the children wouldn't have to deal with the subject before they hit puberty at all.

It takes two to tango. Guys like this are enabled by those who turned to religion to fight their own desires. He could not exist without them.

To create a problem for people who do something you don't approve of in private simply enables government to create worse problems. If we left people to work these things out with God, out of respect for both them as fellow humans and for God, government would never get out of the starting gate with this crap.
Okay. The idea that anyone who opposes homosexuality must have "latent desires" is just plain stupid. Do those who oppose bestiality have a latent desire for sheep? And before some jerkwad pipe up with "How dare you compare bestiality to homosexuality!" my riposte' is "If you are offended by the comparison you must have a furry fetish." It's the same logic. Or how about this logic? While a slight majority of Americans are all a okay with the geh, and overwhelming majority, like 80% of Americans, are against polygamy. All of these feminist / moralists really want to be part of a harem? If so, point me to the next N.O.W. convention! Oh, and I guess every person against adult incest really wants to have sex with his sister or his brother? I put in "his brother" on purpose. The main argument against incest is genetics. But if the incestuous partners are the same sex.......

Here's a thought. Make your point about why you don't think gays shouldn't be discriminated against without taking the other silly extreme of projecting "latent desires" on the people you are arguing with.

That said, once we can dispense with the silliness, you do have something of a point. Christians are going to the mat on gay marriage and getting outflanked on the culture war. If they said "You know what? Screwed it. We're getting rid of marriage licenses altogether. We aren't going to enforce laws against polygamy or adult incest. The only thing that we will enforce is relations with children as they can't adequately protect themselves. The only things we will record at the courthouse are wills, general durable powers of attorney and durable powers of attorney for healthcare, and who actually claims parentage of which children. And for all of those federal laws that are entangled in marriage? Screw em. Let the feds figure that out. No more divorce court. Treat all your so called joint property like you were roommates. We're already used to dealing with single parents anyway so if you split up we know how to handle it."

Take the issue off the table. Then when all that's left to fight about is "You didn't want to bake our wedding cake" or "Your preacher said we're going to hell and we don't think he should be able to say that" or "You don't want to let us move into married student housing at your Christian college" or "James Dobson refused us for pre marital counseling." When that's it people will see the silliness for what it is.

But no. Christians won't do that. That would make too much sense. So some will going in the LBGT movement themselves. Some will take the "Well Obama said it so it must be right....at least to a point" position. Some will keep fighting a losing battle. And some will in effect join the Westboro baptists.
