I'm so sick of seeing "Support our troops" or even worse "Fighting for our freedoms."
During a trip to Word of Life for a week of camp I saw a bumper sticker that said "God bless our troops, especially our snipers."
Usually, when trying to prove a point about war, I don't discuss the troops. I'll probably continue to do this. One teacher I had was open minded to listening to what I had to say about war, but had a father who had served in World War I. I do not regret refraining from talking about soldiers (Including her father) and simply saying that I support the troops enough to keep them out of harms way.
That said: that's not what I really believe. I don't respect them. I don't believe they "Fight for our freedoms." And at the end of the day, I don't really "Support" them either. Oh, it just so happens my policies are far better for them than Uncle Sam's policies, but I don't actually have any respect for them. At all.
And you know what, I'm done apologizing for that. I formally admit to it. I respect people who actually defend their own country, or better yet, their own home or community. I respect people like Ron Paul who put their careers on the line to sit in congress and vote no on every single destructive bill to our freedoms. I do not respect the enablers who sacrifice everything to fight wars that destroy our freedoms.
Normally we refer to people who sacrifice everything for an evil cause as evil. That's how we view the likes of Ted Bundy or (For those of us who are pro-life) people like Wendy Davis with that stupid pro-murder filibuster.
Other than perhaps ignorance, are "Our troops" really any different.
There you go, I said it.
