The case for the fair tax by a liberty minded individual

Let me start out by saying I am not a big fan of the fair tax. I’m not a big fan of taxes in general. I legally get out of paying for as many taxes as I can through legal deductions. I wholeheartedly think the IRS should be abolished, and that we could have a small federal government that survived on tarrifs and user fees, like we did prior to 1913.

Now, in the name of liberty, we need to start moving in the direction of no federal income tax. I look at progressives and they continue to push anything that moves toward socialism. They do not have high morals to say something is right or wrong, they pass any law that moves towards collectivism, thinking that those that come later will carry the ball a little further towards collectivism. Take the healthcare bill (Obamacare) for example. Most liberal progressives yearn for single payor, but they knew that would not pass at this time. So, they passed a bill that was so awful that they hope will lead to single payor later on. They moved the ball that far, someone will come later and move it further.

If you think about it, this is a pretty effective strategy to end up at one point. Liberty minded people in my opinion do not like to compromise their beliefs. Everything is usually black and white, because the liberty position is pretty clearly defined on most issues. Taxation is one of those issues, taxation is theft. We like to be taxed at a local level, because as Thomas Jefferson knew, you have a bigger voice on a local level, much more so than you do in Washington. So, if you have a problem with your taxes you can go down to your local city trustee meeting or county trustee meeting and complain face-to-face with these people. You can’t go down to Washington and tell the President you don’t like him raising your taxes. The Secret Service would probably put you in a headlock long before you got to say anything. Heck, you can’t even get your Congressman or Senator on the phone.

So, if the goal is to eliminate the Federal Income Tax as a final result, we need to progress towards that. Anything that gets us closer is ultimately helpful. The fair tax is a step in the right direction. It eliminates the IRS, makes it more of a level playing field, and gets the government out of our paychecks. Now don’t get me wrong, I do not like nor am I a fan of the Fair Tax. I think it is a terrible system of taxation. However, anything that eliminates the IRS and gets government deductions from my paycheck is better than the system we have right now. So, I am all in for progressing toward the Fair Tax. The day after we get it, I’ll be advocating for the elimination of the Fair Tax towards the no (federal) tax.
