The whole lecture (Religion, Media and Hollywood) is really great, but this part is about what inspired Milch to create a criminally short-lived show he did for HBO, John From Cincinnati (I was one of its "dozens of fans!"). "What if, in the aftermath of 9/11, whatever God is becomes aware that we have been so infantilized- we have been made such children-by our addiction to media, which doesn't sink its roots deep, that we have become capable of a genocide."
