• Rand Paul op-ed: Congress Is Full of Hypocrites. I Took a Stand

    By SEN. RAND PAUL
    February 9, 2018

Last night, for a few hours, your government shut down. Most likely, you slept soundly while this happened. The sun rose, and the world went on. The Government is open again. But the reason for and message behind yesterday’s debate and action in the Senate is still here.

The Senate was set to vote on a 700-page bill that added over $500 billion in new spending to our already out-of-control debt. It was a massive and destructive bargain struck by the leaders of both parties, where both got to blow up the spending “caps” they agreed to just a few short years ago.

I simply asked for one thing in this broken process: a 15-minute vote on whether those caps should or should not be broken. The furor this request set off among leadership, the wailing and screeching among Big Government advocates in Congress and in the media — well, you would think I had asked them to shut down forever.

No. I didn’t want them to shut down at all. Not really. I simply wanted them to act like their spending matters. Like the voices of the people elected to serve matter. Like the process matters.

Right now in the Senate, nothing seems to matter except the will of a small circle of Big Government, free-spending leaders who demand silence and “take it or leave it” votes.

    I chose to leave it.

Sure. Eliminating debt would be something a government does if it's serving the people. Forcing the people to pay big bankers interest is something a government does if it serves the big banks.

And, of course, governments never fail to serve the big banks. So, yeah, a country perking along without wasting the sweat and labor of its citizens on interest payments does boggle the imagination, doesn't it?

And education contributes to the debt of the country does it? Ron Paul infamously said nobody has a right to one.

Borrowing contributes to debt. Borrowing. Nothing else. If only you didn't have an education, you'd understand the definition of 'debt' well enough to know that.

And Ron Paul remembers a time in this country when everyone in this country felt nobody has a right to an education, but anyone could afford an education. It's when somebody hollers that everyone has a right to something that the price goes through the roof.

It is one way to ensure one gets education instead of propaganda. If you're content with a head full of propaganda, then you're content with it. But, believe it or not, there are people who are not content with it, and are not content to get their money taken at gunpoint so it can be used to fill children's heads with it.

Such as, healthcare should be a right, to the employed and unemployed? Welfare should exist to help others who don't have money. Education should be a right, it may be not be free to go to college or university, but loans can help, usually is sadly the way, or the parents.

Science, to understand our world. History, some basics of human rights.

Freedom is the only thing that almost works, tyranny is a dumpster fire.

Why don't you tend to the beam in Britain's eye loser? Your glorious government is importing millions of the evangelical muslims you despise, your violence problems are already worse than ours and they are going to get nightmarish.
