• URGENT: Stop gun control vote in US House!

    From our friends at NAGR:

A gun control bill just passed out of the Republican controlled House Judiciary Committee.

The bill mirrors legislation sponsored by rabid gun grabber Dianne Feinstein in the Senate, and expands the already massive Brady-NICS gun registration database.

The vote was overwhelming, only being opposed by the following Representatives:

    Rep. Steve King (R-IA)
    Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)
    Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID)
    Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO)
    Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ)
    Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX)

Now it’s now off to the House Floor, where a vote could come at any time.

That’s why we must fight back now, and stop this radical bill from moving any further.

**** Please call your Representative right away, and urge them to oppose the Brady-NICS Gun Registration expansion bill, H.R. 4477. The main switchboard is (202) 224-3121 ****

This bill is especially troubling considering the issues that Brady-NICS expansions have caused in the past.

I think it would be very unusual for a bill to pass though committee in just one day. Doesn't seem to have passed committee as far as I can tell but maybe information isn't updated yet.

Committee website doesn't say they passed it yet. https://www.congress.gov/committee/h...diciary/hsju00

Latest Action: House - 11/29/2017 Referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary.
      Co-sponsors:

      Cosponsor Date Cosponsored
      Rep. Cuellar, Henry [D-TX-28]* 11/29/2017
      Rep. Esty, Elizabeth H. [D-CT-5]* 11/29/2017
      Rep. Aguilar, Pete [D-CA-31]* 11/29/2017
      Rep. Costello, Ryan A. [R-PA-6]* 11/29/2017
      Rep. Speier, Jackie [D-CA-14]* 11/29/2017
      Rep. Richmond, Cedric L. [D-LA-2]* 11/29/2017
      Rep. McCaul, Michael T. [R-TX-10]* 11/29/2017
      Rep. Comstock, Barbara [R-VA-10]* 11/29/2017
      Rep. Titus, Dina [D-NV-1]*
Calendar doesn't show the committee even meeting today. They did meet yesterday when it was introduced. Next scheduled meeting December 7th (and that is their only one for the month listed). http://docs.house.gov/Committee/Cale...aspx?Code=JU00

I don't think anything has happened besides introducing it.

So they are adding a Registration Rider to Reciprocity?

      Sounds like the NRA

      They love registration and restriction.

If they want to fix NICS buy decent computers and update information.
      It is almost instantaneous.
How about Updating Restoration of Rights?

Gun Owners of America on the two bills:

      https://gunowners.org/statement-goa-...s-h-r-4477.htm

STATEMENT: GOA Applauds Passage of H.R. 38, Condemns H.R. 4477

Springfield, VA – Executive Director of Gun Owners of America (GOA) Erich Pratt made the following statement after the House Judiciary Committee’s actions on concealed carry reciprocity and background check legislation:

“Over 1.5 million law-abiding Americans who make up Gun Owners of America commend the House Judiciary Committee for reporting H.R. 38, the concealed carry reciprocity bill.

“GOA applauds the committee passage of H.R. 38 and encourages the House leadership to take up the bill right away. This legislation will allow decent Americans to carry in any state in the country with confidence that they would not become entrapped by the fascist gun laws of anti-gun states.

“GOA also sends special kudos to Republicans on the Judiciary Committee who shot down an attempt by Democrats to delete the Constitutional Carry protections in the bill. Gun Owners of America opposed the amendment that sought to only limit concealed carry reciprocity to permit holders and was happy to see that provision go down to an inglorious defeat.

“Finally, Gun Owners of America condemns the committee's approval of the ‘Traffic Ticket Gun Ban’ (H.R. 4477). This deceptive legislation would add hundreds of thousands of additional names into the NICS system, thus blocking thousands of lawful gun owners from purchasing guns for offenses as slight as unpaid traffic tickets. Not only that, it would lay the groundwork for an anti-gun administration to troll every government health and welfare program for the purpose of imposing gun bans on recipients with PTSD, ADHD, and Alzheimer's -- the latter would jeopardize the inheritance of many valuable gun collections. The Obama administration already tried to do this with Social Security disability. In the future, there may not be a pro-gun Congress to disapprove similar moves or a pro-gun president to sign it.”

Justin Amash is against reciprocity for the reasons outlined in the article that Matty just posted.

We may yet get there, but Reciprocity will be an improvement for now.
