SiriusXM Radio on Tuesday suspended talk show host Glenn Beck after Beck spoke with a guest who expressed hope that a “patriot will step up” to remove Donald Trump from office, should he win the presidency.

The satellite station suspended Beck’s program for the coming week and implied that the future of the show may be in doubt, based on comments from Beck that have been interpreted as an endorsement of anti-Trump violence should the presumptive Republican nominee win in November.

The controversy erupted when Beck agreed with conservative author Brad Thor, a frequent guest, as he fretted about the danger Trump poses to democratic institutions.

“This could bring down incredible heat on me, because I’m about to suggest something very bad. It is a hypothetical I am going to ask as a thriller writer,” Thor said. “With the feckless, spineless Congress we have, who will stand in the way of Donald Trump overstepping his constitutional authority as president? If Congress won’t remove him from office, what patriot will step up and do that if he oversteps his mandate as president, his constitutional granted authority as president?”

“I would agree with you on that,” Beck said.

The comments were irresponsible, according to SiriusXM.

“SiriusXM encourages a diversity of discourse and opinion on our talk programs,” reads a statement from the company. “However, comments recently made by a guest on the independently produced Glenn Beck Program, in our judgement, may be reasonably construed by some to have been advocating harm against an individual currently running for office, which we cannot and will not condone.”

“For that reason, we have suspended The Glenn Beck Program from our Patriot channel for the coming week and are evaluating its place in our lineup going forward,” the statement continues. “SiriusXM is committed to a spirited, robust, yet responsible political conversation and believes this action reflects those values.”

No, advocating any type of physical threat crosses over the line,
especially for a media personality to broadcast... Beck really f'd up there!

Yes, politicians cause a lot of harm, especially the ones with good intentions
who unleash massive negative unintended consequences. They no longer even
have the common courtesy to utter the warning catch phrase, "for the children".

SiriusXM is a private company, so if they think it's bad for them, they can punish or fire Beck at any time.

On the other hand, are these serious (realistic) threats? Are they even threats, or just stupid talk? Does anyone believe that Beck will be shooting or stabbing anyone? Does talk like this become dangerous when the speaker is influential? Will Beck be charged with a crime? Issued a restraining order?

Brian, I don't think it matters whether it's stupid talk or not. I was always under the impression that even "stupid talk" was off-limits when it comes to threatening the life of the POTUS -- and I believe that extends to party nominees as well, once they have SS protection.

I can't believe Beck survived the "stabbing" incident. He probably shouldn't have, given that he's influential among the sheep who listen to him.

I'm no Beck fan but I did listen to that segment and I really would never have even considered that they may have been talking about assassination unless someone else had first made the accusation. I still think this has been blown way out of proportion.

Little mention has been made of these alleged 'death threats' against Beck since then. If there has been any arrest, indictment, charges filed, trial, or conviction of the threat makers, it has not been reported by a single news outlet. This leaves the discerning observer no other choice than to conclude that the entire thing may have been fabricated. If the threats really occured, and were posted via youtube video or email, the person could have easily been tracked down and arrested. Case in point:

It might be justice if he was, regardless.

Beck has made up such things in the past against him to suit his own purpose. It doesn't strike me as far fetched he got a little cocky about lying and misleading about such things, and did something illegal.

Whole reason sirus has him off the air for only one week. legal liability.

I'm no Beck fan, nor am I a Trump supporter, but I don't know how one can fail to see that assassination is clearly implied here.

Of course there is a difference in reading a transcript and listening to the audio. The transcript is definitely more damning. All I am saying is that if I had heard this on the radio, I would have glossed over it not having thought that they were talking about assassination. In listening to the audio, to me it sounded like they were talking about if/when we elect someone who decides they want to be a dictator (in this situation, potentially Trump) who is going to step up and do something about the massive increases in executive power said person begins to accumulate. How will we get that person out of office once they have accumulated that power? I would not have jumped to the conclusion that they were talking about assassination and/or violence. It just didn't sound like that to me, based on the audio segment. I suppose that's just a matter of opinion.

This is exactly the type of speech that Trump is consistently allowed to get away with. The media reaction to these statements would have Trump supporters bugging out.

'Oh is that a fact?' Her father asked in the video posted by a right-wing blogger. 'Why are we going to kill Donald Trump?' her mother chimed in.

'Cause he's bad,' said three-year-old, whose identity has been obscured for her own privacy.

Her mother, who is believed to be a Mexican immigrant living in America, is heard whispering in agreement, 'that's right'.

When asked why she thought Trump was bad, the girl replied it was: 'Cause he wants to take away our family.'

'That's mean, huh?' her dad replies. 'Mean Donald Trump.'

When the youngster's mother asks her what they were going to do about Trump, her daughter fires back: 'We have to kill him,' as her parents burst into laughter.

The video has been posted by right-wing blogger and conspiracy theorist Mark Dice who claimed the family were 'no different from (militant Islamist group) Hamas, raising their children to grow up to be suicide bombers'.

That is how I understood it, the assassination is conditional on Trump being a dictator which is illegal. Essential one dangerous and illegal act begets another dangerous and self defensive act. But leave it to the censors among us to cheer the take down of a journalist doing a thought experiment on the radio. Had this been a guy they liked, they would have been the first on here mourning the death of free speech.

If fact, I think we should all support the idea of taking out ANY president who has jumped the constitutional restraints set up for him by the constitution. But oh no, we criticize someone with the balls to say something that needs to be said and try to make him out as a maniac.

He is truly coming around if he extends this idea to ALL presidents. I hope he comes out and doubles down on what he said and please do not apologize to the censors cos you said nothing wrong.
