Free men are necessarily Riflemen. If your intellectual exercise in freedom is also a physical exercise in freedom, at some point, you will meet opposition. In due course you will run into a thug or a dozen thugs who are prepared to use force against you, and compel you to act against your self-interest. If you can not, or will not defend yourself, then this freedom of yours is only a hollow fantasy. And you are a clawless, gutless, plump and cuddly herbivore; merely food for the carnivores. Living within the world's collectivist empires, if one is not continually thwarting or repelling aggression, then one is being eaten, or eating others. There are no other options. Cash a government check, you are eating human flesh. Pay a tax, you are being eaten.
