The weird thing, is the CIA is in and of itself, not a shadowy agent of some force of great power, but just a badly designed beureacratic instrument that has to survive off of corruption to exist. essentially, the things that it does are secret, and, by nature, it can't go to congress and request funding for the projects that it handles. since it regularly funds or arms rebellious groups or anti government groups, the power players who can organize such a political power move in third world countries are often drug czars; its obvious and natural that the agency would have to cheat a little and let some people through the cracks in exchange for a favor or funding. also, in order to keep it secret, it can't have a legitimate paper trail, or people would be able to sue to find out what they are doing, which would defeat the purpose of doing a secret mission in the first place.

even members of the CIA themselves often try to sue to declassify information because they fear that the department works against itself in some issues and some of its field agents lives are put in danger because of it.

the crazy thing is that people think the CIA can exist WITHOUT intense corruption. intelligence gathering is one thing, but we know that the modern definition of "spy" much moreso entails political manipulation, regime destabilizing, and political assassination as much as it does just a gatherer of information.

with michael schurer is talking about asking clinton to authorize them to kill Bin Ladin... with what authority does the branch itself have to select certain 3rd world leaders it finds potentially threatening and assassinate them? the CIA agents themselves are then criminals in the country in which they have committed the assassination.

its, by nature, legally sketchy territory, violative of the sovereignty of other nations, and unbecoming of a republic to have a secret death squad, no matter where it operates.

I can't help but recall a series of e-mails with a guy who thought Leo Strauss's ideas were very cool. One thing he said is that Strauss and his Neo-con students believe that the concept of national sovereignty is based on mythology.

With thinking like that no wonder there is no respect for borders and the rights of people to determine their own social, economic and political destinies by our leaders.

This film really demonstrates how pathological the powers that be really are. If you have the means, do whatever the F@#$ you want with any country, any national leader and any person.
