Up here in Canada where I live, some scary things are happening. A man named Ezra Levant, a conservative activist who I had previously not heard of, is being forced to appear in a hearing before the Human Rights Commission.
What he has done is publish the notorious Danish "Prophet Mohammed with a bomb" cartoons in a paper in Alberta called the Western Standard. An Imam (Muslim priest/cleric) from Saudi Arabia has filed a complaint against Mr. Levant and would like him to be charged with a hate crime. The Imam claims that Levant is spreading "lies" about him and his religion.
The scary thing is that several people up here have already been convicted of "illegal speech" and imprisoned by this "Human Rights Commission". A schoolteacher was convicted of running a web site that alleged a Jewish plot to take over the world (note to the RCMP: I do not endorse these illegal views) and was subsequently imprisoned on the grounds of "hateful propaganda". Nobody charged with Hate Speech has escaped conviction as far as I know.
Mr. Levant prudently brought a camera with him and recorded the entire hearing or "interrogation" as he calls it. Watch all nine videos if you can, I found his arguments for free speech quite inspiring.

Here's a Canadian forum discussing the matter:

Please tell me what you think. Is there still hope for Canada?
