So everyone knows about the 50 states with delegates, but did you know about Guam, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa which have delegates?

Yes, I doubt any candidate did sh-t here, but combined these terrorities give 50 delegates, Puerto Rico with the most having 23 alone.

So do we have this covered, cuz if not and IF we have time then we need to get these places full of RP delegates if the time hasn't ended. This will be a brokered convention so EVERY ONE counts!!! If we can get these FREEBIES, all will be good!!!

Just wondering if anyone knew this, cuz if not we need to find out the info. BTW I got this from wiki:

Wow, didn't realize all of these territories participated in the nomination process. And added up they are worth quite a chunk of delegates (50).

Just for clarification though, these appear below the Feb.5 table on that Wiki page in the "Phase 4: The Rest Of The Race" table.

Feb 16 - Guam - caucus - 9 delegates
Feb 23 - US Virgin Islands - caucus - 9 delegates
Feb 24 - Puerto Rico - primary - 23 delegates
Mar 1 - American Samoa - caucus - 9 delegates

Definitely could be a great opportunity.

It says that on the last column of how it is determined, and for explanation you can read what it means in a box which is near the top of the page.

I took a random look at some of the American Samoa, Guam, Virgin Islands RP meetup groups and only found 2 people registered in a Guam group -- but no active links to their email or anything... How can we reach the Republican party in these places? or somehow get the RP message out over there?

JustAnAmerican

We could write letters, make phone calls to anyone we might know over there. We can encourage Dr. Paul to launch a "US Territories" tour. Hell, we could even fly an operative or two to these places to go door to door.

Anyone want to volunteer to be a precinct leader in Guam? :D

Just found this at primarilypaul.com!

"I got an email back from the Republican Party of American Samoa. Since American Samoa isn’t a state they do not participate in federal elections, but can participate in the Republican National Convention. The email says all one has to do is be registered to vote, show up at the convention, join and pay dues at the door if not already a member, then vote for Ron Paul."

http://www.primarilypaul.com/2007/10/29/email-from-american-samoa-about-their-republican-primary/

So... would a win here count towards our brokered convention?!

Guam does have influence in the national presidential race, although these convention delegates are elected by local party conventions rather than voters in primaries.[2]

Definitely! Anyone know supporters living in or familiar with any of these territories that could head up an advertising effort?

And does anyone have a way of finding out if HQ has any strategy towards these territories & grabbing these valuable delegates?

Hmmm...what are Vijay and the OLFD people doing now? This could be a perfect opportunity for a similar operation, and could really have a dramatic impact.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find some volunteers willing to spend a couple weeks campaigning in the tropics.

I think this is brilliant. We need to get ads down there... Lets check out the local papers, see if we can get some adverts there. If the only adverts they see is Ron Paul, who do you think they will vote for?

Nevada showed us this tactic of campaigning where others don't, DOES work...

Feb 16 - Guam - caucus - 9
Feb 23 - US Virgin Islands - caucus - 9
Feb 24 - Puerto Rico - primary - 23
Mar 1 - American Samoa - caucus - 9
TBD - Northern Marianas - caucus - 9

But all of states include the 3 party leaders, so there's only:

* 6 at-large delegates from American Samoa.
* 16 at-large delegates from the District of Columbia.
* 6 at-large delegates from Guam.
* 6 at-large delegates from Northern Mariana Islands
* 20 at-large delegates from Puerto Rico.
* 6 at-large delegates from Virgin Islands.

I asked about Puerto Rico the other day.

Geographically, and based on schedule, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands would be a good focus. Their caucus/primary are nearly the same date, and there isn't much travel involved.

No. The G.O.P. rules say that at the time of the convention, the majority of delegates from five states must be for a candidate in order for him to become the party nominee. It says nothing about territories in this rule.

Fifty delegates is pretty paltry compared to the over one thousand needed to take a majority. It could not, however, hurt.

If the territories don't count in nominating a party candidate, then what are the delegates for? Territory elections?...just wondering... why they have them if they can't be used for presidential elections.

They count as far as I know, but a candidate needs to have a majority of delegates AND have won five states.

And one would think Afghanistan and Iraq also get delegates, which could help us, but unfortunately not. :)
