Absolutely unbelievable. I have been watching the filming of The Dark Knight very closely and was very excited for his performance which people have been calling groundbreaking for a comic movie role.

Very sad news. God Bless his family and his daughter.

Actor Heath Ledger Dead At 28
Sources: Death May Be Drug-Related; Pills Found Scattered In Room
NEW YORK (CBS) ― Heath Ledger, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the critically-acclaimed movie Brokeback Mountain, has died, sources tell CBS 2.

The Australian born actor was just 28.

He was found dead at 3:26 p.m. in his downtown Manhattan residence, an NYPD spokesperson says. He was apparently scheduled to have a massage in his apartment this afternoon.

Sources tell CBS 2's Scott Weinberger the death may be drug-related and that there were pills scattered around the room.

Ledger had recently separated from his wife, actress Michelle Williams. The couple have one daughter, Matilda.

He is appearing in the next installment of the "Batman" movie opposite Christian Bale as the infamous "Joker" and was in the midst of filming "The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus."

Other well-known films Ledger appeared in include "The Patriot," "A Knight's Tale," and "Monster's Ball."

Ledger would have turned 29 on April 4.

Stay with wcbstv.com and CBS 2 for the latest in his developing story.

The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment building at 421 Broome Street in SoHo, according to the New York City police. Mr. Ledger was 28.
At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body.
Mr. Ledger, a native of Perth, Australia, won acclaim for his role as a co-star in “Brokeback Mountain”, a 2005 film. The film, based on a short story by Annie Proulx about two cowboys who fall in love, won critical acclaim. Reviewing the film in The New York Times, the critic Stephen Holden wrote, “Mr. Ledger magically and mysteriously disappears beneath the skin of his lean, sinewy character. It is a great screen performance, as good as the best of Marlon Brando and Sean Penn.”
Calls by The New York Times to Mara Buxbaum, a publicist for Mr. Ledger, and Steve Alexander, the actor’s agent, were not immediately returned this afternoon.

This is so sad. :( I really liked him a lot. In fact, I had a crush on him. My condolences and prayers to his family and loved ones.

I had a crush on him, too! This is incredibly depressing. He was talented, young, and had a young daughter. The separation must have been hard on him I'm guessing. :(

I don't know if anyone saw Four Feathers, but the acting was incredible!! Liked him in the Patriot, too.

My prayers go out to his family and friends.

"10 things I hate about you" is one of my favorite movies. I don't usually go for that genre but Heath made it work.

From what little I knew about him he seemed to be a a real down to earth person. In interviews he never seemed to let the common celebrity persona get to his head.

He was a great actor and might have been an even better person. Very sad, my condolences go out to his family daughter.

Who cares? I mean really.... It's another lowlife actor who overdosed on drugs because they were irresponsible (assuming of course the news is accurate). It just cleans out the gene pool.

Of course the situation is unfortunate, but it could've been avoided. THIS WAS 100% PREVENTABLE - simply don't take the pills. I don't care one iota.

His wife and kid on the other hand I do truly feel sorry for because they have to bear the burden of this guy's poor choice.

True... but having suffered from mental addiction myself, I can understand and sympathize with heath.

Habits can be tough to break, and unfortunately some can be dangerous... we all make mistakes, his happened to be fatal.

I feel sorry for him, but no more than i feel sorry for anyone else whose time has come... I really dont care how it happens... dying young deserves sympathy :o

RIP Heath

Actor, played a gay cowboy once. No I did like him as an actor but this has nothing to do with Ron Paul. It looks like we should start banning people who start threads like this.
