So basically my dad makes my mom (Who I converted into a Ron Paul supporter) take an online test which questions you on certain issues and projects which candidate you mostly agree on. She came up with Hilary (long time democrat my mother was), and my dad went off that she is not voting for who she believes in and is only voting for Ron Paul because of me. We start arguing about the war, abortion, and everything inbetween and how if it wasnt for me she would not be involved. I said that was true but she is not going to switch her party affiliation after 30 years because I told her too. It ends up with my parents arguing and my dad storming off. I swear it seems we can never have an intelligent political discussion in this household. People get upset and cant hear another side of the story. I guess my dad wont be voting for Ron Paul but my Mom and I will come Super Tuesday in California. Just needed to vent guys...

I heard of a quiz like that that asked "Would you support a woman for president" and if you answered yes it would say you should vote for Hilary...

The ABC poll is really good. When I am trying to convert people I just have them take that poll and Ron Paul is always top 2 usually number 1.

Does your dad know we are 53+ trillion in debt? each person owes roughly 170 thousand dollars ON TOP of paying their taxes.

NONE of the other candidates are doing anything about this. As a matter of fact they are all promising more "free" stuff to voters. Ask him at what point this madness will stop.

Here are some responses I put together to common thoughts I've heard from people about their decision making process and their candidates. Perhaps some of these points may be useful to you: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=96226.

Been there done that dude, it sucks. At xmas eve dinner my bachelors or higher degreed family was trying to convince me and my mom that RP is a fringe candidate who has no idea what hes talking about.

They are indoctrinated. Luckily even my mom saw it. My cuz flat out admitted you can get flunked in 4yr colleges for 'leaning libertarian'.

Politics and Religion are very similar in that
it is hard to converse with logic and reason
with a person who is not of the same faith
or political party.

For some reason presenting evidence does
not seem to help. Having an argument with
someone over the fact that Noah's ark was
not actually big enough to hold all of the
creatures of the world helped lead me to
this conclusion long ago.

There's always one loaded question in those tests. The abc test has a question about which is important, serving in the house, serving in the senate, serving as governor, etc. Well, what if none of those are important? Of course I pick in the house, cuz RP served in the house, and my 3 choices are RP, Kucinich and Gravel.

Don't give up friend. Keep up the good work. I know how dad's can be when it comes to politics. My dad and I have some totally different beliefs on how government should be run, and we butt heads about it.

Just keep studying the issues, and schooling your dad. Maybe he'll come around.

If you have studied the issues and understand and agree with Ron Paul's views, there is no way those polls can trick you. I have taken some of them and immediately recognized the questions and how they were asking them were intended to work a "Frank Luntz" on the person responding to the poll.

I never have any trouble with them.

You need to calmly talk in depth about these issues with your Mom to see that she understands his views and why they matter. If she agrees with them she should retake that poll. Sit with her and explain to her when she takes the poll what the question is really asking her. You win twice. She can figure it out herself next time she takes a poll plus she really understands the issues. :)

Didn't anyone ever tell you one thing you don't talk about during dinner is religion or politics. At least thats how I was raised.

Not worth arguing with family over, argue with someone else that it won't matter if you offend or not. Thats my 2c....

People who let politics come between family need to step back and take a deep breath.

I agree with this. Remember that you are family, and will love each other, but you won't always see eye to eye. Just keep discussing the issues at other times, as calmly as possible. It's amazing how people can change their minds, even if they were so set in their original beliefs.

Give it time, and patience, but don't be upset if you are ultimately not successful. As the person quoted above says, don't let it come between you and your family.

Not good as my family are all democrats and refuse to vote for Ron Paul based on that, but all have said that if Ron ran as a Democrat he would get their vote.

Interesting to say the least since Ron's more concervative than the other Republican candidates.

The polls are often based on what the candidate SAYS, not the candidate's reputation and actions or what he/she will actually do. Example, we all know Hillary is pretty pro-war but I can bet anything most of the match up polls make her anti-war.

Explain to them how the two party system is a farce. If a party designation is their only reason for not voting Ron Paul they are seriously deranged. How did Nazi Germany come to power? Using the same exact tactics.

I'm 15. Both of my parents are very conservative and agree with Ron Paul after I showed them, and we're all big supporters. BUT, I brought up religion, (we're Catholic) and things went nuts. Still trying to recover from it after a few days now lol. Oh well, won't bring up religion again.

One major problem is many people only know 1 or 2 issues of their favorite candidate, those programs look at multiple issues, the ones that allow you to weight issues are a little better.

I think many of Ron Pauls liberal supporters would be disappointed in a Ron Paul Presidency (Those Marxist Liberatarians that want a RP/Kucinich ticket...LOL), it is stunning how little many people know about his platform. Conversly I think many Republicans would be thrilled by a Ron Paul Presidency, if they could get past the Iraq war issue.

I grew up in the sixties, on US military bases, as my father was career Navy. My older brother was a full fledged hippie, butting heads with Dad over the war and tricky dick Nixon. You can just imagine some of the arguements-better than 'Archie Bunker' or the'Wonder Years' TV shows. I never would have believed back then that my Brother was actually more correct than my good and patriotic, but brainwashed Father. Hang in there Friend, as your life will take some wonderous and strange paths.

Personally, I'm fed up with sheep. I don't care if they're family or not. I have read the constitution (many times), along with the writings of the founders. I'm pissed off as hell that people who have no clue about what made this country great have wrecked it. It's because of mind controlled zombies, who are too lazy to even read, that we are on the verge of losing our republic.
