Nearby, a group of local supporters of presidential candidate Ron Paul gathered with political signs. John Oden, 27, said they hoped to show the similarities between Dr. King and Dr. Paul, a Texas congressman who is running for the Republican nomination.

"If you look at what Martin Luther King had to say and what Ron Paul has to say, it's virtually the same thing," said Mr. Oden, a Plano resident. "Everybody deserves rights and deserves liberty."
