I know we got a liberty candidates forum, but I do think it's important to bring attention to the candidates I mention in this post since they are running NOW, and need those around the nation now to keep an eye on their campaigns.

Many of them being our fellow forum members who need our support.

So yeah, read it.

Absolutely. This needs to be a political movement; not just one candidacy for one office.

is there a more prominent way to shed the spotlight on "ron paul republicans" (or similar types) running for office? the blog is great, but even something like a dedicated website might be good.

More important and easier to do. Act locally. Recall the bad ones and move your way up.

hopefully after Ron is done with most of the states, people will start to focus on congressional candidates.
I'm focused on Ron right now too.

Maybe we can start keeping track of every single county that RP wins or places a strong second and try to get someone to run in that district. The organization would be in place and the people are already pre-screened, i.e., receptive to the message. It would be really helpful if the incumbent were to leave office.

Alex,

My friend is running for congress as a Ron Paul Democrat here in a jerrymandered district in CA. How can I help him using this forum or any other RP congress sites?

Thanks!

lets be honest, the sheep elect the president.... but the sheep have no clue who to vote for in congress. they just punch (R) or (D). we can win the battle of getting congress elected as libertarian thinking republicans because we have the manpower, and we won't have to worry about MSM or sheep because they have little influence in local politics.

What is a Ron Paul Democrat?

We can have Ron Paul democrats, many democrats are actually libertarians who don't know it yet like I was. most democrats vote party lines blindly, so running on Ron Pauls policies with a democrat banner can work long as you use a populist pitch

Like basically focus on how the federal reserve favors corporations and hurts the poors, lifts the poor, demonize corporations and democrats are won over

Join the Liberty Independence Alliance, my goal is to get people covertly into all parties. Cause some district will never elect certain parties, so we need to be able to criss cross party lines.

for the record, the LIA website is http://libertyia.ning.com , brent you should join too so I can plug you in the feb newsletter

Yeah, I know many Democrats are just confused Libertarians. I didn't know what label to give myself before because the parties didn't seem too different from what I saw. I am just curious how someone would run as a Ron Paul Democrat. I am thinking in my own district if I were to run against the incumbent Democrat (took the seat in 2006, 106 years of repubs in the seat prior to that) I would concentrate on 3 issues:

1. Lower/No federal income taxes - Spend your own money on the "progressive" ideas you want to see done in the world. (still working on this one, I am finding many "progressives" have a very fatalistic view of humanity and that people can not be trusted to take care of themselves, so it is better to take all of their productivity and do it for them. Still not sure of an easy delivery method to change this type of thinking. I think it has to be changed as a package deal of convincing arguments in each "progressive" issue they are concerned about)

2. Environment - Get the EPA out of regulating the environment and let the states and strong(er) private property rights rule the day. It might seem counter-intuitive at first to these folks, but the recent EPA decision to overrule 14 states lower emission's standards goes a long way towards this end.
2a. Lower/No federal income taxes - stop supporting big oil and coal interests with government subsidies. Give above the line tax deductions or tax credits to individuals and businesses for investing in alternative energy. When income tax is fully eliminated people will have more money to choose alternatives.

3. Health Care - Get the FDA out of over-regulating the health care industry, driving costs up. The FDA's own reports say they will put many small and medium sized supplement manufacturers and distributors out of business.
3a. More tax deductions for health care... and perhaps small federal funding to encourage states/regions to organize their own local health education/programs.

4. Education - Do you think the federal government is better at teaching your children than you or your community is? Schools are run locally and most funds come from local sources, the federal government has no right to force your school to teach a certain curriculum, as they currently do. The Dept. of Ed. could decide schools must teach Creationism to still qualify for federal funds, that can't be a good thing, can it?
4a. Above the line deductions/credits for school books/supplies or higher education expenses.

Anyone have anything to add to this for convincing Democrats that they should be Libertarians?
