I can't spare a dime right now, but I've convinced about 5 people to throw some change BJ's way. He's a great candidate, from what I can tell.

We'll all have to band together and confirm / deny the local names are actually running on an honest Paul-type ticket.

I don't know enough about the guy... is he an incumbent, and if so, does anyone have his voting record in the state?

I think there will be a large influx of local government individuals like this who will be using this election platform to run. We have to be vigilant and discerning, just like now.

I think he should have RP's name on his site somewhere. I will galdly contribute to him, if anyone can tell me more about where his campaign stands right now, who he's up against, etc.

Can we get him to support Ron Paul's get rid of the income tax and replace it with nothing, as opposed to his current stance, replace income tax with (un)fair tax?

The fair tax is a decent idea for a transistion, especially if the % can be kept low. Pretty much anything is better than the current nightmare of a 66,000-page IRS code with jackbooted enforcement.

Everyone,

The original goal for the month was $300K. It was obviously a very ambitious goal and while we still hold hope that we can make it we're also very realistic about the chances of it happening.

Therefore, what I'd really like to see happen is for the campaign to raise at least $100,000 by the end of the month. We're currently at just over $70,000.

Who among you is willing to step up and help make it happen?

Moshe Starkman the guy that was using Ron Paul's name to raise money, but was Fred Thompson's regional coordinator. I don't know about his policies, but that whole ordeal seemed very dishonest.

This kind of negates a need for a complicated page - I might just link to it - have simple Candidate links ect.

They need to add BJ though.

Hi folks -- happy to join the conversation. A couple quick points in response to questions:

I started out as the Organizer of the Triangle Ron Paul Meetup (#52) here in North Carolina. I am running for Congress as a Ron Paul Republican, and while many in the GOP here are favorably disposed towards a message of true conservatism, there is a minority that is dead-set against my candidacy and has been making my life rather interesting:

http://blog.lawsonforcongress.com/2008/01/15/what-is-a-true-republican/

"Hate mails" accusing me of being a Libertarian notwithstanding, it's been an excellent experience thus far with lots of folks across the spectrum standing up in support of the Constitution, and a Constitutional federal government. Here is where I kicked off my campaign at the Ron Paul Tea Party Celebration back on 12/16:

http://www.lawsonforcongress.com/snippets/110/2007-12-16-ron-paul-tea-party-celebration/

Regarding a Consumption Tax:
I have not yet reconciled the numbers Ron Paul is asserting on replacing the income tax with "nothing". Believe me, I've been looking -- but the numbers I see from the Treasury's budget, and from my study of David Walker's work on our entitlement obligations, I can't see how to get there yet. I am seeking more specifics from his campaign -- I'm just not there yet based upon my assessment of the primary data. Regardless, the IRS needs to RIP, and a 30% national sales tax (yes, 30%, not 23%) seems like a non-starter in terms of likelihood of black market activity and the need for police-state tactics to enforce even at a state level.

With respect to what I'm up against, I'm in a rather interesting GOP party primary against an "ordained" candidate for which we need to raise a bunch of money to get the word out via direct mail and lit drops (mostly driven by pushcards and pocket Constitutions). This stuff is expensive, although thanks to the RP grassroots, we've been getting great prices. But we're targeting 50,000 households in the district for the primary, building up for a much bigger push in November.

Our goal in November is to defeat our 11-term incumbent who absolutely defines the status quo. He's on the appropriations committee, and while I have nothing against him personally, he is bankrupting our country and thus negatively impacting my children's future. To put it mildly. We estimate it will take between $1-1.5MM to displace him, as we will need to invest in traditional media as well as our grassroots strategy.

With respect to other Constitutional candidates to support, here are the ones with whom I am personally talking and believe are running credible campaigns. Not that I there aren't others... these are just the ones I consider kindred spirits based upon personal interactions:

Dean Santoro (FL)
Theodore Terbolizard (CA)
Kevin George (TX)
Murray Sabrin (NJ)

All of them are patriots and deserve support!

I truly appreciate your support, and please don't hesitate to contact me through the Campaign Blog comments if you have questions. Due to time constraints, I don't spend much time personally on the forums, although Garland from our campaign is a regular contributor. He's also a good way to get in touch with me.

In liberty,
BJ

We were at the District 37 precinct meeting tonight and received some literature from BJ's campaign. Thanks for the copy of the Constitution! It turned my husband's eye to your campaign tonight.
Oh yeah, Ron Paul came in 2nd with 11 votes in our straw poll. Huckabee was first with 12.

I am glad you cleared up your current position on the income tax and irs. There seemed to be a little confusion with the people we were talking to. I lean towards no income tax, but i will live with 1% until congress repeals the 16th:D
God speed with your campaign.

Moshe Starkman the guy that was using Ron Paul's name to raise money, but was Fred Thompson's regional coordinator. I don't know about his policies, but that whole ordeal seemed very dishonest.

Looking through that guys page.

"I believe that the US, being a desired target of terrorism, has a responsibility to fight the War on Terror."

"I believe that after Maryland's tax hike and the proposed tax increases from Congress, the tax burden on working families is too great and that our communities, jobs, and lives would benefit from federal tax relief."

Slightly Hawkish, though less so than others. Wants to sincerely reduce taxes it seems, but stops far short of a "liberty candidate".

I would probably vote for the guy, and be happy if I had him in my district. This guy is not a "true" freedom message candidate though, and can do better. Reach out to him if you live there, and tell him you would volunteer "if ... ".

Back to the topic at hand. Donate to BJ Lawson. The guy seems to be the complete package, and getting that establishment crony out (my words, not Lawson's) is basically +2 Congressional votes. One less old guard, one more new. Two vote swing.

A real chance to give Dr. Paul a reliable ally.
