I would be willing to max out if I knew 10,000 other people were doing the same. This would give the necessary $23 million. I would not trust a simple pledge system for this and I do not believe many others would either, seeing how many fake 5k pledges there were for the blimp.
There needs to be more integration between the grassroots and HQ.
I think HQ should create an official pledging system that verifies credit cards and places a hold on funds, but does not charge them until the goal is reached.
HQ does not need to organize the effort, but I imagine that would be easiest to develop at first and should be done ASAP to raise the $23 million needed for super Tuesday.
In a less complex system pledges would be tracked and published by HQ in the same manner the grassroots money bomb pledges have been tracked, and when the stated goal is reached all pledges would be charged.
In a more complex system, and one in which the grassroots would be empowered to create their own goals, HQ would need to provide a way for grassroots organizers to utilize the "Project/Event Code" in the donation form, and register a project/event with HQ. HQ would then host a small description of the event details and the "trigger" level of donation pledges or # of unique pledges that would cause that event to "go live".
The grassroots could then promote the event and link supporters to the appropriate Project/Event donation page at HQ.
I believe a system like this would encourage larger and more organized money bombs, as you are assured there will be no "duds". I think this is a fear that causes many people to be hesitant to pledge or donate. I know at midnight on Nov. 5th I had a feeling I would be participating in a dud, and certainly did not expect more donations to come in than pledges.
So, is there any hope or merit in having HQ implement an idea such as this?
If a system like this is implemented, I pledge to contribute $1500 and max out. (Think that pledge would cover the cost of the required programmer(s)?)
