Today in my 5th period World History class, my teacher noticed the Ron Paul button in my backpack, and it was right at the beginning of "student forum," where we talk about anything we want, so he talked about him to the class about it. At one point he said "You know he can't win, right? He's not even on the ballot" and I replied "He's on the ballot" He then said "No, he isn't" and we then "discussed" that for a few moments. After that he said when one of the more ignorant children asked who Ron Paul was he said "A businessman with no background in politics" I butted in and said he was 10-term Congressman and a Doctor from Texas. I can't wait to see him on Tuesday (three day weekend, yeah) and laugh when we've won Nevada, do well in South Carolina, and been bumped up ten points in the National polls.

It is amazing that you have a teacher with that level of ignorance.

A lot of teachers are stupid. Some teachers are really great. It's hit or miss.

He said that all he knew about him is the signs all over the county, after the ignorant comment of course.

He's by far not the worse. I once had a teacher who believed Texas was larger than Alaska.

Thanks goodness for public education. I still remember my daughter's 3rd grade teacher correcting her that Thomas Jefferson was NEVER a president. Fortunately we have "no teacher left behind".

maybe "no background in politics" means "not part of a political family" and actually had to work for his position.

That is not amazing. I am a teacher and you wouldn't believe what passes for teachers. They, on the most part, are completely brainwashed by the NEA and modern education. They are oblivious to the truths so well documented in Charlotte Iserbyt's www.deliberatedumbingdown.com This is one of the best websites you can study to truly find out what is happening in dumbed down public education. She speaks weekly on www.rprradio.com

What do you teach, and where do you teach it? I think I might just want to go there.

I recently had an experience with my 9th grader discussing the presidential elections and the debates in her western civ class. The teacher asked about the candidates, my daughter mentioned Ron Paul and the teacher said, "Ron Paul is not a major candidate so we won't be discussing him". (wtf?)

Then she went on to tell the class that democrats are for individual rights. My daughter (bless her!) said that she laughed so loud, everyone looked at her. (my, my, we paint with such a broad brush!)

That teacher got a piece of my mind, even though I tried to be nice. She then told my daughter that she could write a 2 page paper on why Ron Paul should be president and that she would let her read it to the class. My daughter wrote the paper but the teacher changed her mind about letting her read it. No surprise...

But the worst is the textbooks...OMG! Revisionist history at its finest :(

Well Corey, I hope you're as outspoken as my daughter; she has managed to turn a lot of her friends into Ron Paul supporters AND she's taken a real interest in individual liberty, the Constitution and the whole voting process (which she thinks is entirely unfair...lol).

I am thrilled to see so many young people like you involved!!!! Please stay involved; it's your future you're protecting!

Here is one of the best quotes I have read on modern education. I forgot where I got it from. I teach English in Texas.

Modern Education

The educational system has moved Western Culture from a didactical, fact-based system of thought rooted in logic and absolute truth to a dialectical, feeling-based system of thought rooted in constantly changing, non-absolute values. Distinctions between cultures are minimized and all religions are now said to be of equal value. Tolerance has been substituted for love of neighbor and the truth.

Bravo Corey! I know it's hard but I always tell my children that it's a good thing to stand up for what you believe in and what's right even though it's not always popular. You'll earn tremendous respect for that, even sometimes from your "enemies" (and you may win people over in the process).

Your parents should be very proud of you!!

Brilliant analysis and quote. I made one very small edit in bold to scratch a personal itch/bias, but it stands well enough on its own.

All by itself, this quote made the time I've spent here today worthwhile. Thanks!

Eh.. I don't think she is actually. She actually gets mad easy when I talk about Ron because she really believes in the war and any fact I tell her, she dosen't care or believe it.

Not really....

Teacher went to state school.....Teacher passed state tests....teacher found to have acceptable level of intelligence to teach state school....evolution surrenders.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.

My global teacher thinks war's good for the economy. My chemistry teacher reaches for the calculator at 18.46 x 100. My english teacher...don't even get me started on english teachers.

Well, the teachers aren't supposed to influence kids about elections and shouldn't be repeating propaganda from the tube to the students. 'RP can't win'. That is very unprofessional. Does anyone think some of these teachers aren't doing this deliberately? The comment about dems being for ind rights, was she going to say Reps are for group? Ha.

No Child Left Behind is about purposely dumbing down kids, and was an international type UN agreement along with Goals 2000. Both concern socialist indoctrination away from knowing what creates true freedom in a Republic, 'global outreach' (saw that on a wall in my 4th grade niece's class!), along with other things that would curl lots of toes. They are working on trying to create 'global citizens'.

So this is what the teachers are teaching in different degrees, and depending on the school one is farther ahead than others. I bet early guinea pig schools include ones like Columbine (nice death classes in schools). Even read that this is seaping into some private schools, the teachers come out of a lot of colleges with this training now.

The same place that he got whatever it is he's teaching in the rest of the class.

This is more evidence of the dumbing down of America.

(You should have said, Well, you're just a teacher with no background in government!)

Like they say, Those who can, do and those who can't, teach!

Come to Rhode Island! The land owned by unions and advocacy groups. We're in a $550 million deficit, we have the highest paid teachers in the country and the 2nd to last worst performing schools, we're in the top 3 for the highest taxes, and our average income is about $25,000 less than state workers. We're one of the smallest states, but we have the largest state work force in relation to our population. 20% (yes I said 20%) of our population is on welfare. Rhode Island and Michigan are the only two states to show a negative growth rate in population, although people are leaving our state faster than Michigan. We obviously have no jobs whatsoever. Democrat owned state. Union owned state. Advocate owned state.

Rhode Island is what the United States will look like after 8 years of Clinton, Obama or Edwards.

I'm teetering between economics&finance or history/civics/social studies for teaching for my bachelors. I was pretty dismayed when my cousin and aunt (both teachers) practically laughed me out of their house when I said that our entire education system has this quiet socialist edge to it, and that I wanted to become a teacher to throw a little bit of freedom into the mix and correct some historical mistakes in the books to at least a few of the next generation. My cousin said if I ever talked like that to a class I'd be gone in a heartbeat.
They also thought libertarian/classical liberal ideas are pretty silly and outdated.

I still want to do it, but I think I might be able to get further with my philosophy in a job where I don't answer to the enemy...

Teachers who do what you want are being scrutinized, and objectives to be met are looked at and if you are not teaching what they want you to teach, watch out. I would think better off teaching at private school. Your cousin was pretty much right about being gone in a heartbeat, she has also been brainwashed through the ed requirement system/NEA/No Child stuff to think the way our country was founded is outdated. That is what they are teaching the kids!!

Public ed needs to go!! With the IRS.

Yeah, it reminds me of when i was in gradeschool and in my PE class we had a student election with bill clinton and bob dole, i said i want to vote for ross perot, she told me he wasnt a real canidate. I refused to vote so they made me run around the track.

Also, my text books all the way up to college basically tell you that the civil war was all about slavery, and the depression was solely a result of the dust bowl.
