I live in northern BC in Canada. I work in the oil and gas industry but my town is mainly a forest industry town. A large portion of the wood products made here are exported to the USA. In the last 8 years our mills have been having troubles. Cutbacks in production due to lack of demand in the USA market for lumber and wood panels have been slowly happening, and today the mills here announced they will be closing indefinately as of April 1, 2008. The main mill here has been open for 40 years, there have been tough market conditions but never a shutdown like this.

Reasons so far seem to be a severe reduction in new homes construction in the USA and the strong Canadian dollar.

Im looking forward to the econmic plan being released tomorrow.
