Hi folks. I am putting together a set of orginals and a cover ( American Pie) for the Ron Paul rockfests. I worte this song and the music to it last night when forced out of bed at 2:30AM with heartburn..heh.. and I had posted to and read everything on these forums:) In my mind I wanted to evoke the original revolution but make it a piece of words that could be taken in temporal context as being now.

Don't Tread On Me (copyright 2007 Randy Lee Blain)
[verse 1]
Let me tell you a tale of liberty
About the remnant of the brave and free
Strike the root of the tyrants tree
A Constitutional remedy

Back in seventeen seventy six
Fed up with the tyrants tricks
Took an armed stand to be free
The shout rang out "Don't Tread On Me"

[chorus]
A shot rang out across the land
The ragtag band would make the stand
A time to die or be free
Hear it foe "Don't Tread On Me"!

[verse 2]
And learned men would take their hand
And document their Makers grant
Of life and freedom and liberty
A Constitutional remedy

Contracts are naught without due force
And history had to take it's course
They knew that to live their philosophy
That I stand by you, you stand by me

[chorus]
And a shot rang out across the land
The ragtag band would make the stand
A time to die or be free
Hear it foe "Don't Tread On Me"!

[verse 3]
Husbands and brothers took up arms
Shopkeeper, brewmaster and local farmer
Roustabout, rogue and livery
Joined in the fight to be free

Natural law and the rights of man
For the first time there would make its stand
And change the course of history
And toll the bells of liberty

[chorus]
And a shot rang out across the land
The ragtag band would make the stand
A time to die or be free
Hear it foe "Don't Tread On Me"!

[verse4]
They'ld rattle 'em hard and knock 'em to hell
The devils retreated, their agents had fell
Strike the root with the sword of the free
Show them your Sovereignity

The blood of good patriots water the tree
That keeps the mothers and children free
If your a real man you'll make your stand
Against the tyrants active hand

[chorus]
And a shot rang out across the land
The ragtag band would make the stand
A time to die or be free
Hear it foe "Don't Tread On Me"!

Nice.

Thank you Sir. From a wordsmith such as yourself I deem that an extra in compliments. I was thinking on my way back from coffee I need to find an inspiring and rousing version of The Ride of Paul Revere.. Anybody know a good link to other than dry historic links to this tale then post them here.

Interesting synchronicity sidenote. I got my museum replica Tricorn hat in dove grey with black trim this afternoon..had a nap and got up to go eat. I run into the local roustabout "Bones"..who wants to gift me a nice piece of silver jewelry he found. I decline as I wear no jewelry. We walk twenty more feet and there on the ground is a SILVER DOLLAR. Bones picks it up and I tell him to keep it for good luck. He says..NO! I'll spend it..you will keep it. I just want a beer.." heh.. So I get him a tall Sam Adams..just to stay on the revolutionary track and have my lucky SILVER DOLLAR., I got me one too..beer that is....just to celebrate my new hat and song:D

Best Regards
Randy

I'd love these words sung in a punk-styling! thinking Minor Threat, Against Me!, or Propaghandi style.... sweet!
