Ok-

So I go the Registrar of Voters office to get certified proof that I switch to Republican before November 30th.

While waiting for the ladies to figure out what to do with my request...one of the higher ups came to the front counter and told me that people had called her about me to confirm I was registered prior to the 30th.

Then...this is when the weird part happens... I hear a lady speaking loudly from an office unseen in the back about Ron Paul... very loudly...

Then one of those people from the back come up and ask me if I was supporting Ron Paul... (in an office that has a huge sign that says no politics to be discussed)

I affirmed her question..so she asked me to follow her to the back office...
She escorts me to the head ladies office and introduces me as a Ron Paul supporter.

Head lady then asks "Why is Ron Paul on the Republican Ballot when he is a libertarian?"

I of course reply in a confused tone... "But ma'am, Ron Paul is a Republican, He's been in congress for 20 years as a Republican"

She rebuts, "But I've seen his billboards in town, they say he's a libertarian"

I refute, "No ma'am, those billboard say nothing about libertarian..(then I go on to describe in detail what the billboards do say)"

Then she continues... "But I saw yard signs on Albert Street that say that..."

which I could only explain to her.. "Um, those are my yard signs....and they don't say that"

*silence* no response handed notarized voter card.

Very weird. I've been harassed at the Voter Registrar's office, I've been harassed at my own polling place when I was running for congress...

I didn't get any of their names...but this is ridiculous... reminds me of memetics.

Wassup with that...? And why is my voter registrar's office spreading disinfo?

Should've mentioned that many libertarian principles are old school republican values, and that Ronald Reagan called libertarianism the essence of republicanism.

I did mention to her the brief history of the libertarian party and its connection with the republican party... but my history lesson was met with glazed eyes... either she wasn't interested in history or incapable of understand what I was saying.

I was very logical and civil in my discussion with the head lady, though her tone almost seem mocking...

Isn't there a legal precident for this type of behavior especially in the voters' registar office?

She probably thought she could one-up you. You should be proud that you silenced that bi- err, woman.

Yeh, but think about this.... if she had this same conversation with someone who didn't know better???? She could have run off a potential voter with disinfo...

I'm sure there is... there is a big sign at their office that says no discussion of ballots.
As in no political discussion about candidates that are on the ballot.
That rule was definitely broken... of course, its my word against theres... but I assure you, this shit did happen.

Yeah, that's definitely what she was after. Or perhaps just was spiteful and wanted to affirm to herself that she's more knowledgeable than some "Paulite." Cognitive dissonance, I suppose.

People are very ego-driven, especially in politics, so it wouldn't surprise me if she did it just to prove to herself she knows more about politics than you, some "party crasher," did.

Clear political bias - get documentation, hell sneak a camera back in there and get it up on YouTube. Her conduct is illegal, even in the bayou! Expose that woman for the nation to see! YouTube her ( does that sound like a new OB-GYN procedure? ) then take it from there...

Yeh. I shut her up when she made the mistake of trying to say my own yard signs said ron paul was a libertarian. The other ladies laughed at her at that point.

That's when she shut up and notarized my proof of party change.

We aren't welcomed, so we will have to replace these people.

This is the truest statement I have read so far today, and reflects many of my own experiences with the local party (which was taken over back in '88 by the Pat Robertson crowd).

I actually see some of them cringe when our people show up to events :)

I think the legal word for discussions of the candidates in an election office of any kind is call ELECTIONEERING. You might want to look into that, google it?

My son and I went to early vote here in Illinois, and they asked him if he had ever voted before. My son said nope, but Ron Paul cured my apathy. The young lady assisting him quickly replied, Oh I'm sorry no ones allowed to comment or talk about the candidates in an election office. So we switched to the issues.

Anyway sounds like ones job at least. Good luck.

Here's another crazy story: I moved to Maryland years ago and registered as an Independent when I got my driver's license, when I went to vote I found out I wasn't registered at all!

I was pretty disturbed by this and so they let me fill out this paper ballot and registration form, where I, once again, registered as an Independent. When I got my voter registration form, guess what it said: DEMOCRAT.

WTF??

And now, I've registered Republican in PA, and recently checked the website to see for sure that I was registered and Republican here. Guess what--NOTHING.

The incompetence and bias in these offices is atrocious.

I'm going to have to go to the county court house and get the notarized form as well.

Jeeeeeeeeezus.
