That the U.S. Dollar is NOT backed by gold. I couldn't believe it when he was arguing with me about this, and we had to look it up online. I asked my mom the same question, and she too did not know that the U.S. dollar is backed by nothing but 'trust'.

What I'm saying is, and this actually shouldn't be a shock, that a lot of Americans just are not aware of how fucked up our country is and in so many ways. I think this might be one reason Ron Paul's message does not reach some, and certainly didn't reach my dad (who voted McLame and thought Ron Paul was a democrat???). There is no urgency like we feel. I think it is therefore just as important to get another message out in additional to Dr. Pauls - our country is ready to shit the bed.

My high school history teachers taught my class that it was backed up by gold.... and that wasn't too long ago

Politicians still think the dollar is backed by gold too.

I knew the debt/deficit situation was bad, but just learned in the last week what David Walker has been saying. These videos keep me awake at night.

yes this is very true. My entire family with the exception of my Father and one Uncle didn't know this. None of my co-workers didn't know this either.

My high school econ teacher said that the creation of money is complicated and we shouldn't get into it. Luckily for him I didn't know anything back then.

My dad knows the income tax is bs... My mom is going to be a lot harder sell on that. As for the backing by gold or anything, I've not attempted this conversation with my mom. I think, my dad knows this also.

My high school Cold War teacher told us it was backed by 'trust' and at the time it seemed OK.

And another thing is, it seems like many people are scared of Ron Paul's message because it really does offer a MAJOR change from the status quo. I think people are automatically assuming that just because the IRS and Income Tax have been around for so long that it's ridiculous to get rid of it. People are afraid to question the system, or not afraid but think it's ridiculous to, when really, we should ALWAYS be questioning the system. ALWAYS!

If you really want to go further down the rabbit hole and get a very easy read of how our money went from gold to "trust" and the implications of it re: Liberty. Give one of Ron Paul's books a read: Gold, Peace and Prosperity: The Birth of a new Currency. (http://www.mises.org/books/goldpeace.pdf) Available as pdf for free at http://www.mises.org/books/goldpeace.pdf

It is only 55 pages and really enlightening. I can't recommend it enough.

Want to help spread the word? Help me put together a factual document that we can hand out while canvassing. Doing this by myself is slow going having to read through all the speeches and watch all the videos.

You'd be surprised about how many people actually believe we are still on the gold standard. My mother and sister thought we were still on the gold standard up until few months ago.

It's videos like these that make me wish I could go back to thinking that Ron Paul is just plain crazy.

Yeah, it's kind of sad when you realize that most of the people RUNNING the show are crazy instead.

Should have been easy.

What's the price of gold these days?

If the dollar were backed by gold, the price of gold in dollars should be the same as it was yesterday and a year ago.

Right, unless I'm mistaken, the hundreds of years we were on the gold standard saw 0 inflation, the one exception being during the civil war.

Imagine if you could stick 20 bucks in a savings account as a kid, and pull it out when you retire not having lost any buying power.

Ahh, to dream.
