I remember a story I was told when I was kid.
There was a tortoise who took his time and kept a steady pace:

While the hare was ahead and in a full sprint early in the race, and everyone thought the hare would win(or one of them),:

The tortoise didn't let that get him down. He kept on going and didn't pay much attention to the taunts from the hare.
However, the hare was getting wore out from sprinting so long and wasn't going to be able to keep it up much longer. The hare would soon come to a halt since there was no energy(money) left to keep that pace going.
So through the pack the tortoise came through and finished with first place.
