yes I said it here is the link.

http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/February_5th_will_be_a_Pauldi_Gras_in_New_Orleans/p.png

$2800 puts the Ron Paul Air Corps in front of 1 million people on Mardi Gras Day for 6 hours. Just 4 days before Louisiana's primary (47 delegates)

You are supporting an Air and Ground effort. The first $2800 raised goes to the AirCorps. Let's make this effort happen, about 1 million people will look up Mardi Gras day, and depending on how much we raise over $2800 we'll put a slim-jim on their parked car.

1 Million People that is awesome. I hope you guys can give even just a little to this cause. This is a very cheap way to spread the word at $.0028 for every impression. I am not affiliated with him just want to see this happen, I think LA's grassroots are working hard. We are having volunteers from HQ coming down here, and the grassroots are working hard to propel us higher.

I think it's a great idea, but I have one request:

Please don't use that graphic; as you know RP is having issues about electability, etc. especially among older voters.

If opposing campaigns start using that image it won't be good.

One clarification: the delegates are elected at the caucus on Tuesday. The primary has nothing to do with delegates.

Still, we would like the primary to reflect the caucus, so we want Ron Paul to get as many votes as possible at the primary.

Just talked to Ted Anderson again. He said we need to have the money to him by January 28th. So with that much time we should be able to do it.

I also asked about the banner, but he said there isn't much he can do because if it said Ron Paul for president, they could get in a lot of trouble. They would need to become a PAC if they did that. I told him about the older voters, but the older voters wouldn't understand Google Ron Paul.

He is shipping down one of the banners he already made. I think the key thing is for us on the ground to get the message out before the parade starts. If we can canvas the route and get a lot of people's support then when they see the banner flying it will get them going even more.

Yeah use the graphic with him in the Mardi Gras hat instead!

This is brilliant by the way people. I am always in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and this would the cheapest thing that we can do to market to millions of people.

Can you make the R3evolution in Mardi Gras colors? Red White and Blue is going to clash with the decor of the day....purple, green and gold.

I can't wait to see this. My friends are going to look at me disappovingly down in the French Quarter when we get a fly by and I'm gonna say " What I do?" !!!

Thanks Dirk. I had hoped the 1100 meet-up members in the Gulf Coast area would support this. I sent them all an e-mail, but I guess people are down right now about the election and reluctant with all the efforts going on. The good news is we have until the 28th, so hopefully we can raise enough by then. If we can raise at least $1400 the plane will fly for 3 hours. That's better than nothing.

Unfortunately the banners are already printed. If we could raise another 3000 on top of the 2800 we could get our own banner printed. With the way money is dripping in right now I don't think that is even an option.

Sorry! I take it back but......we need another $3000 huh? hmmmmmm

Well if we're going to do this we might want to consider upping the ante and doing it right by making our own banner.

I know that sounds like a lot but I think it could be done. When would we have to have the cash to get a Special Mardi Gras banner made?

I think the difference in acceptance by the people we are trying to target can not be overstated.

how about a Ron Paul Float? :p

We have already looked into that, unfortunately, they do not allow any sort of political floats. They say it would be unfair. I had thought about marching before the parade but that didn't work out. They said the police would take us off the route.

So we will canvass early on the parade route, then once it starts put slim-jims on as many cars as possible and have the plane fly over. We were going to give Ron Paul mardi gras beads, but that effort failed. These efforts are about the only thing we can do.

For all the inquiring minds out there, I did an interactive google map to show the path of the different parade routes.

New Orleans: has over 600,000 people on the route from 8am until 6pm
Metairie: has over 400,000 on the route all day
Westbank: has about 100,000 or so, it's still growing over there.

the thing is, most of those people are from out of state therefore, not voting in the primary. also, many of those people are young, drunk, and preoccupied.

is there really going to be a good ROI in the sense of actual voters??

btwilli1
01-16-2008, 04:48 PM
Well In Metairie there are over 400,000 people, and this is the family area. We plan to canvass this area the most.

Not everybody gets drunk. Everybody has a few beers but nobody stays drunk the whole day. That's why if we fly for 6 hours we'll catch some drunks that sobered up. They are they few I would say. Less than 1/3 are drunk the whole day. Another 1/3 isn't drunk at all.

Wouldn't it go even further from the out of town people? They have seen a lot of Ron Paul stuff in their hometowns, and I am sure this will be a moment like "damn he's everywhere" who said he wasn't electable.

This is a very good idea!

It is only $2800 to pull this off, folks, so please donate.

I can't see any other form of advertising that could be as effective for $2,800!

And while everyone is NOT drunk on Mardi Gras day....I on the other hand will be!

But I would still see the banner as will everybody else....drunk or not!

Mardi Gras, while pictured on mainstream media as a drunk orgy by young people, is very much a family oriented affair for the most part.

These are voters folks from all over the country!

only problem with this is people at MG are wasted and want to party.

not talk about politics and the gold standard....

I mean its like the blimp... it's a cool idea and gets us exposure, but how much does it really do for us in terms of voters??

Being viral is great, but we need to focus on going door to door.

Chipping in for this cause doesn't stop anybody from going door to door. Do both. Also Dr. Paul's name will work for him in this case. Even if people are drunk how hard is it to remember Ron Paul? Two one-syllable first names. Not like Gooli-who? or Huck-a-what?

And I agree with another comment I saw. I have been to several Mardi Gras parades. In New Orleans & Metairie they are huge. You have to get there early. You do spend a long time waiting around with nothing to do. I think people would enjoy something to look at.

btwilli1
01-17-2008, 10:01 AM
No other candidate has ever had supporters talk to people at a parade, or even slim jim cars. There are thousands and thousands of parked cars centered around the parade routes. If we could slim jim them all that would be awesome. It would back up the air effort. Because nobody cared that much to give up their holiday.

The other thing we want to do is canvass the parade route in the morning. There have been several mardi gras where I was out holding a spot for my friends or family from 4am until the parade started. There are several thousand people just sitting around holding spots early in the morning. I want to walk the route in groups of 4 at different locations and talk to those people sitting by themselves not doing anything else but waiting.... and waiting and waiting and waiting. This is better than knocking on doors because they see you coming, and it's not like "who the hell is that at my door."

We need people to send us slim jims and such as well so we can give them out, and put them on cars. One guy sent me about 500 of them yesterday. Every little bit helps this effort.

Very true but......

Lets put this effort in context.

It is only $2800 to again expose 1 million people to the name of Ron Paul.

Does it get people to Vote? No, canvassing does that but...it supports it.
Does it get people to stop partying and start talking politics? No, but notice it? Yes
Does it take the place of meetups and local advertising? No but supports it.

People who are having a good time at Mardi Gras DO see these fly by banners! Most of the time it is advertising Cuervo Gold or a local bar.
I've gone to mardi gras every year since 1960
I'm always in the French Quarter parading and partying on Mardi Gras day
I'm always having as good a time (loaded) as the next guy

I always notice the fly by banners.....ALWAYS! because it is part of the big show!

I know grassroots has a lot of "chip-in" activities going on right now. This one is as valid as any other one that I've seen.

I still think he should have a Mardi Gras hat on for best effect but....I'll take what I can get.

And as far as the mainstream media spinning it as "non-electable" they will be saying that on his inauguration day if we make that a reality!

btwilli1
01-17-2008, 11:30 AM
I'll ask Ted of RonPaulAirCorps if we can tape a fabric mardi gras bead or hat to him. I don't know if he will go for it. The banner is about 3000 dollars or so.

How would you append something to a banner like that? I can see Ron Paul being de-hatted in the middle of the route.

Unfortunately the banner costs over $3000 to make. It will be a banner the ronpaulaircorps.com already uses. They will ship it down to the airport here and then they will fly it. It is a huge banner and expensive to make. Not much wiggle room here. With the people on the ground to supplement the banner it should work out just fine.

And it supports the ground effort of handing out slim jims and canvassers.

Plus....all the visitors that will see it will take that memory back to there home states saying they saw the Ron Paul air corps in action.

Plus..... it is a simple chip-in so if every one would just give $10-$25 dollars it's not going to break anybodies bank.

A great use of resources in my opinion.

Unfortunately that idea didn't make it. We were trying to get it funded but we only raised like $700. We needed about 2400 to order 1000 high quality beads and have them shipped.

Khar Ong from Houston, TX got us to 800! Somebody send that man a button =)

I am looking into backup plans. Like flying just a plan with letters, or other flying options that day if we can't reach our goal. I'll let you guys know (maybe I'll find a better deal, keep that on the down low)

I talked to another company that would put individual letters on a banner.

They would do "Ron Paul for President" and charge:
1hr 750
2hr 950

I might be able to talk him into a discount for 4 hours. Maybe I could get it for 1800. We'll see how much we have raised by Tuesday. Just trying to get options. I don't want another failed plan on my hands =)

How are we doing with this chip-in? Are we closing in on it or do we have a long way to go?

Since its not a Chip In it not updated real time

btwilli1
01-19-2008, 11:41 AM
Just updated it. Yeah donations have slowed down, in fact you are the first in a day or so.

I update it manually because chip-in doesn't take into account google checkout, which is much better than paypal. I just manually update it. To have it automatically update would have taken me a day or so to figure out. It'd just be easier to do it manually. Thanks for the donation. It looks like Louisiana needs to step up their support =).

Since Dr. Paul is coming here in the next day or so we should get more support hopefully!

Come on guys, you will not find a cheaper way to hit people with Ron Paul's name.

For just $10 you can hit 2,800 people. This should have been paid for already.
