I would like to toss this idea out. WHY do we not get a receipt that verifies our vote, that can be checked via website and a printout at Town hall for voting county. To me this seems like a simple process and I can not believe this is not being done.

I will explain.

Example:
My vote receipt is
Jefferson County - 100-2671

You then go to a public website listing all numbers and who it was voted for (All number are still private, only you have your receipt) or the Town has a hard copy posted at Town Hall, or known public viewing area.

Receipts listed on website or board at Town Hall.

Jefferson County (total voters 6)

100-1311 McCain
100-1412 Romney
100-2132 Paul
100-2671 Paul
101-0019 Paul
101-0029 Romney

VERY SIMPLE PROCESS, not rocket science. Then anyone could verify if there voted was properly counted and if not could report it to the township say within a certain period of time from when it was posted, 48 hrs.

they could, but they use them to hide the vote, not to verify your honest vote.

handcounting in public is the only way.

There's still a way around this if someone wanted to rig an election. You'd only be looking for your number. If they included all the real votes and then inflated the results with a bunch of false votes, no one would recognize the false votes. They'd only see that their vote was counted correctly.

Bottom line: If the vote is rigged, the receipt is falsified.

Here's a good reason why not:

"Hi Mr. Union Boss. What do you mean you want to see my voting receipt before I clock in today?"

Good F'ing point, guess you made my thread pointless!

That could be a very very bad thing!

I guess hand count in public is only way.

Here's the thing.. you can have a secret ballot , or a perfectly unquestionable and unimpeachable count, but you can't have both.

What they need is this:

1) You vote electronically
2) A receipt prints out
3) Receipt is placed into a secured box that is monitored by everyone, so they can do a hand recount if neccessary.

Now thats a good idea, why didn't our politician think of this?

Because a transparent voting process wouldn't allow them to fix the elections :)
