I'm trying to load some new Ron Paul videos that I made on one computer to another computer and I need a detailed instruction on how to do it.

I already have a crossover cable hooked up to the machines, I just need the detailed instructions to setup the folders, dns, and all that syntax stuff.

I'm using win. xp-pro for both machines.

- if the files are small and you have a dvd burner, burn them to dvd rewritable disc and take it to another computer.

- You can use one of those usb flash drives that hold 1 Gb or more.

- If you still wish to transfer files over ethernet cables, use the "network setup wizard" and follow the directions. You can access the wizard start > my network places > wizard

I have to do it this way because my burner is on the other cpu.

Is there a detailed instruction I can read about this somehwere? It's not as easy as you think. I tried doing it the way you said already.

Here is an article on direct cable connection between two computers - http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahcj.html

You can also read the following - http://compnetworking.about.com/od/homenetworking/a/connecttwocomp.htm

Have you considered using a usb thumb drive to transfer the files? If you don't have one, you should consider getting one. They're pretty cheap and really come in handy.

Tell me more. Is there any "loss" when transfered to the thumb drive? And what does the thumb drive plub into? Usb?

Is it fast at transfering or slow? How much storage and how much money?
thanks

A thumb drive (or flash drive) is a usb drive.
There's no loss in file transfer.
It plugs into a usb port.
It's fast (As long as your usb drive is usb 2.1 (If your computer is half-ways modern it will be))
They're small enough to fit on a key chain and can hold a lot of information (One of mine is 2 Gig and they come a lot larger.)
They're cheap too.
I've picked mine up for under 18 dollars - you can find them cheaper than that.
You just put it into your usb port and drag the files into it.

I got mine at Target and Radio Shack. (I don't shop at Wal-Mart)
Just checked and Target has a 1 gig one for $10.00:

Here are various other drives:

I've haven't tried a wired computer transfer for quite a few years, but it was difficult for me when I did.
