I think RP should do his best to get as much support and attention as possible but then at least consider adding a democrat/independent to his ticket. I think a Paul/Kucinich ticket would be very interesting (gun control and health care conflicts aside). I bet some people on the forum would think that kind of alliance is treasonous, but I think that might underestimate both their common ground and the country's diversity. Not only would a Paul/Kucinich ticket automatically collect 5-10% of the progressive, anti-war electorate, but it could become a powerhouse of anti-bush, pro-civil liberty, pro-citizen politics. Plus, their tensions would bring the dialogue center-stage. If two seasoned and reasonable politicians couldn't resolve their differences about these issues, I'm not sure what that says about the entire country trying to do it. Other possibilities: Paul/Gravel, Paul/Feingold...

A Paul/Gravel ticket would be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Kucinich is great also, but I LOVES me some Gravel!!!

You know I thought about Unity 08 for a couple minutes and I thought to myself, do I really want Democrats and Republicans to unite? I finally said no. I don't want a one party system. No candidate is going to choose a VP that disagrees with them. Instead of focusing on unitiing America, which is very anti-american in a sense, we should be trying to get a 3rd party and a 4th party in these elections.

Now if one of these candidates want to bring on a 3rd party candidate as VP I think that would be a huge step in the right direction.

I have been doing some digging into Unity08 and I fear it is too good to be true.

Here is a website that is also trying to find out what unity08 is up to:

http://irregulartimes.com/unity08watch.html

Note: this website is also full of anti-Ron Paul posts as I believe the webmaster feels threatened by Dr. Paul. Clearly he knows his candidate does not stack up well against the good doctor.

There are a bunch of articles (http://www.unity08.com/radar) on Bloomberg and this may be the vehicle to get him in the race.

Also the founders council includes:

Peter Ackerman, Washington, D.C. Managing Director of Rockport Capital and Board Chairman of Freedom House, father of two. CFR MEMBER

The Advisory Council includes Peter listed above and:

George Vradenburg, president of the Vradenburg Foundation and former executive vice president for global and strategic policy at AOL/Time Warner CFR MEMBER

Bill Weld, the Republican governor of Massachusetts from 1991-1997, and partner at the law firm McDermott, Will & Emery CFR MEMBER

CFR info found at http://www.stopthenorthamericanunion.com/CFRMembers.html

Naturally you are left to come up with your own opinion.

What do you mean by a Unity Ticket?

A Unity Ticket will consist of a woman and/or man from each major party running for President and Vice President, or by independents who assemble a Unity Team from both parties.

Is this saying there will be one man and one woman or just that there could be one man and one woman on the ticket?

Also, I tend to agree that this pre-meditated corporate attempt at third party/independent politics doesn't sound all that great. I don't think a ticket of 1 Dem and 1 Rep is necessarily a good thing. Let's vote for people, not for parties.

Regardless of underlying goals of Unity08, they are doing a survey. It's a little long, but you can write in Ron Paul and pick the issues that are important. You can also tell them what you like or dislike about their process.

-----

I just participated in a study that let me rank the important issues facing the country and the presidential candidates who I think will be able to address them. You should also take it now! Seriously, it only takes about 10-15 minutes and I know you will enjoy it.

The study also tells you about Unity08, a movement that I am a member of. A citizens' movement that can help solve our current political mess. Unity08 allows Americans - that's YOU and me - to voice our important issues and nominate a better choice for president in 2008.

After you take the study, you should join me at Unity08 and we'll fix the country together!
