I have a friend who says she is a democrat that when I said something about Obama running for pres. she laughed at me and said you mean Osama!!! Boy am I dumb.......LOL. People are so stupid, yes. But being informed and intelligent doesn't really seem to have too many tangible benifits. I am smart and informed, but that isn't going to get me money and feed my family. Actually reading and being interested in things is a major distraction from making money, tending to my hair, nails, makeup, weight, biceps, calories, tan, ect. keeping up appearances, shopping, ect. What good is knowledge, really. Can't feed your family with smarts about other countries. IQ is nothing to me.....gets you nothing in life. Good hair and a good body get you everything.

Yes, in general they are. This is something that frustrates me every single day. It's one thing to not know something, but to not know something and have absolutely no interest in learning is what is sad. Most people aren't even aware of how this current political race affects them.

I work with a guy who cut off 2 of his fingers in a table saw accident at home. When he returned a month later, he was bragging about it and actually proud of losing his fingers. He was later appointed to the safety team. There is another guy who was working on my line (despite my really not wanting him there). He came up to me one day to show me his shoe and how he had cut holes in it with a razor blade (banned from my workplace) to provide air-conditioning. I just shook my head and when I went down to make sure they were doing what they were supposed to I found that they had spent their time completely painting the stereo in whiteout.

I once worked in an call center and due to some rather rediculous geography screw ups - we did a training class on US geography. One girl could not identify NJ on the US map. Our office was in NJ. The girl lived in NJ. Truly pathetic.

This is what we are up against. An electorate dumbed by the failure of the education system and numbed by infotainment. They have no historical context or philosophical underpinnings on which to evalute any real information you might present to them. With an attention span of roughly 30 seconds at best only a feel good rah rah sound bite can get through the gauze that is their brain.
