Anyone know if Ron Paul has any particular opinion of Ayn Rand and her philosophy? Here's a link to an interview with Ayn Rand that is very interesting:

Many libertarians began their philosophical journey after reading Ayn Rand and becoming familiar with the concepts of Objectivism.

Ron is probably closer to the Austrian School of Economics branch of libertarianism, which while respecting much of what Ayn Rand says, does have differences. Here is a good article by Roderic Long of the Mises Institute (Austrian Economics) about Ayn Rand.

Another very influential libertarian and Austrian Economist is Murray Rothbard. Rothbard, founder of Cato, was a friend of Ayn Rand but fell out over some issues. Here Rothbard makes a somewhat humorous critique of the Ayn Rand Cult: http://www.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard23.html

It's worth noting that some prominant Objectivists are pro-war and pro-intervention. This is not true true of the Austrian School influenced libertarians who have developed most of their thinking from Ludwig von Mises and Murray Rothbard. www.mises.org has an incredibly large range of resources.

The websites www.lewrockwell.com and www.antiwar.com are also strongly influenced by Austrian Economics, which is closely aligned with Classical Liberal values. i.e. Small central government, avoiding entangling aliances, real-free markets.
