I didn't know it was actually ever authorized!

Wasn't that one of the debate issues??

Who needs an election when we have Home Land Security to think for us and enforce what we do?

Yeah, does anyone know what's going on with this yet? As I've understood it many states have passed legislation against it, but does that do anything to stop the federal legislation?

This is the media spin.

This is a VICTORY.

The new National ID card was supposed to be in place no later than 2008, but because we and the states have been raising hell about it, they graciously pushed back the compliance (God I hate that word anymore) dates to 2018.

17 states have said no.

Get the rest to say the same.

They can't arrest all of us.

Unfortunitely, my state is bending over backwards on this thing and LIKING IT!

I've been doing whatever I can to get the word out about it. I'm considering taking out a full page ad in the newspaper about it, which would also mention how RP is opposed to it if I did. It would also include a list of all the members of the NC Congressional delegation who voted for it.

It was pushed through buried in some completely unrelated bill (some kind of foreign aid or something) awhile back... was supposed to go into effect in May, but from what people are saying here it sounds like it's been delayed by quite a few years. Now we just have to fight to get rid of the idea completely.

Why can't we DEMAND that bills in congress be mandated to have no more than 10 directly related issues to the topic bill?

They restrict us so WE restrict them!

Yes this will increase the number of bills but no more sneaky "by the light of the midnight oil" passages that only the guilty know what's in it.

BTW, since we are counting into the trillions and beyond surely limiting the content segments would not be a issue - Hah, Bundle This!

What's so bad about it is that back in Feb. of 2005 when The REAL ID Act was voted on seperately and failed my Congressman, Brad Miller, who I loathe, voted against it. I was so thrilled by his vote that despite how much I loathe him and despite how much we disagree on so many issues I sent a letter to the editor of my local newspaper praising him for his vote.

Then, a few months later, he turned around and voted for the appropriations bill with the REAL ID buried in it.

P.S. Looks like the crazies have had to push back the master plan--at least to 2017. That gives us a tiny bit of breathing room. And for those of us born before 1964, we have a few more years before we're totally tracked. After that, it's a lead wallet!

Sadly, the states that are passing legislation against this will soon cave in when CONgress tells them that if they (the states) refuse to play ball..there goes their highway funds. This is the same garbage they used to get the seat-belt laws, 55 mph speed limits and all manner of other laws passed (supposedly at the state level). They just blackmail the states into doing what CONgress wants and how they get laws passed where the feds have no real authority. Just another problem with the income tax system. The feds steal OUR money and then use it to bribe/blackmail OUR states into rolling over for whatever the feds want to do.

"REAL democracy" is how we got into this f*****g mess in the first place.

All the loss of freedom we are currently suffering stems from the ruling class selling us one simple word: DEMOCRACY!

We are not a democracy, never have been and were never intended to be. The founding fathers HATED democracy.

As much as I am embarrassed to say anything positive about my "Live, Freeze and Die" state after last Tuesday's debacle I will say this.

NH already holds fast against seat belt laws and loses a portion of fed funds because of it.

More states need to join in.

Without discussing details, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff promoted the final rules for REAL ID during a meeting Thursday with an advisory council.

"We worked very closely with the states in terms of developing a plan that I think will be inexpensive, reasonable to implement and produce the results," he said. "This is a win-win. As long as people use driver's licenses to identify themselves for whatever reason there's no reason for those licenses to be easily counterfeited or tampered with."

Reasoning: just so easy to adopt and why not? with no details...of course...

The September 11 attacks were the main motivation for the changes.

The hijacker-pilot who flew into the Pentagon, Hani Hanjour, had a total of four driver's licenses and ID cards from three states. The DHS, which was created in response to the attacks, has created a slogan for REAL ID: "One driver, one license."

Better invoke the fear factor and 9/11....with this new driver's license - we can stop terrorism...thank you USG...

A handful of states have already signed written agreements indicating plans to comply with REAL ID. Seventeen others, though, have passed legislation or resolutions objecting to it, often based on concerns about the billions of dollars such extra security is expected to cost.

..often based on the money involved.....yea....bs!!

The National ID card was always supposed to start being implemented in May of 2008. It sounds like that hasn't changed. I thought a deadline was for 2012 but it looks like it was extended to 2017. Basically, when your drivers liscense expires, when you go to renew, you will get a National ID card starting in May this year.

They've been threatening to not let people board aircraft without it since the beginning. I'm pretty sure that the-state-who-shall-not-be-named-this-week pays out more in highway taxes than we receive in back. So hopefully, the Governor when the time comes has the Chutzpah to tell them that we won't pay highway funds out if we're not getting anything back.

tyranny at it's finest right here. This is just outrageous. Chertoff is blaming the states for the airports not accepting driver's licenses as valid identification. Yet states that say they will comply will be allowed to use their driver's license? Complete and utter BS.

The government's plan is using guilt and artificial necessity in order to enact this horrible RealID because when people are forced into thinking they need something, they will comply.

All states must unite and demand that this RealID is a bad idea

Go ahead and wank on about your "Republic" and etc...etc...

all this proves by moving the compliance date out so far (2017!?) is that it has absolutely nothing to do with anyone's safety and everything to do with herding us into the corral like cattle! Yeah Chertoff keep saying this is all about protecting us from terrorism!

Whoops, jumped the gun a little bit. Assuming things makes me look stupid because penalties haven't been assessed yet for not having an ID card.

"The last thing I want to do is punish citizens of a state who would love to have a REAL ID license but can't get one," Chertoff said. "But in the end, the rule is the rule as passed by Congress."

A raise of hands of ANYBODY begging for a Real ID! What a tool!

What would you suggest we do Oz? I think we can all agree we are going to canvas, support, donate, and vote for Dr. Paul.

I am seriously against the national ID. In fact my choice to take it or not comes now not in 2017. I see TWIC as a testing ground for the national ID cards. As far as my employer is concerned I should already have it.

I can delay for a few more months but in the end I will either give up a really good high paying job and a field that I have been working in for over 10 years or take the card.

If you thought Michael Chertoff’s mismanagement of FEMA during hurricane Katrina should have been grounds for dismissal, you would have been wrong. But nooo, let’s elevate this guy to a higher position of heading Homeland Security.

Here is a government official who gave us the Patriot Act and holds a second citizenship in Israel now wants to herd the sheep into his own private corral. Do a little research on this jerk, and you’ll find out he’s quite the little “devil”.:eek:

As Yogi Berra once said “Only In America”!!

It really is mandated by May this year. If your state doesn't file for an extension then your license won't be accepted at the Federal level after May 11, 2008.

So it will be interesting which states, if any, will refuse to file for an extension.

Ozwest
01-12-2008, 03:03 PM
Half the country has already blocked it, with several states pending strong opposition, and a few who have not voted either way yet.

If it's mandated by 2017, that means we have 9 years to stop it.

Plenty of time - IF we use that time dilligently and responsibly.

EDIT: I stand corrected, if you're under 50, the year is 2014. Yikes. Still, we need to stop this.

As has been said, it will be easy to rally the churches. NO ONE wants "the mark".

Yep. Nine years... No worries.

A special drivers license and ID cards didn't stop Osama bin Laden from driving right up to the hotel in downtown Sydney, Australia a couple months ago, going through at least 3 checkpoints, before he was arrested and then set free on a technicality. Oh so you don't believe it? I swear its true we just haven't heard about it here as the media has blacklisted the story but here it is on an Australian News Network

"REAL democracy" is how we got into this f*****g mess in the first place.

All the loss of freedom we are currently suffering stems from the ruling class selling us one simple word: DEMOCRACY!

We are not a democracy, never have been and were never intended to be. The founding fathers HATED democracy.

Please read your history.

+1
I despise that word!
(easy slip though, it's been beat into our heads long enough)

How 'bout REAL CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT
