On the next Spam Drive, I wonder if we could get a business to help sponsor it and contribute? They would get good press, and it would show that we can organize and inspire local companies as well.

Just thinking out loud again, please hijack this thread for any planning ideas.

Hormel? They wouldn't, however, because they hate how their premier product has become synonymous with junk email. And most corporations are cowardly, not wanting to get overtly political.

Well, I don't know about corporate sponsors, but the next time you do this you're getting $100.00 from me.

You SURE about that??
I for one would think that a smart corporate advertiser might want anything that deflects from that 'correlation'. This could be a huge advertising boost.

I was thinking more of local businesses, not major corporations.
I'm sure someone in your local meetup is a small business owner, they could take a $500 tax deduction for giving to the charity in the process of building up the can drive.

Would Spam benefit from advertising? I mean, they could say that it gives you super powers, still don't think I'd eat it.

Has anyone beside me sent a link to the gabling911 article?

Here is what I sent via the "Contact Us" form on Hormmel's web site.

In case you weren't aware of it, I thought you folks might find this amusing if not actually heart-warming:

"Ron Paul SPAMmers Spam local Charity With a Wall of Food"

http://www.gambling911.com/Ron-Paul-072307.html

"By noon, several supporters were there to help stack the food into a 3 foot high by 8 foot long wall of cans and boxes (only a few cans were actually Spam, the supporters felt that variety was better for the health of the children. No offense meant to the Spam company.)"

There is already talks behind the scenes organizing one or more depending on RP schedule, for when Paul comes to Florida in Sept.

Its on in FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are going to make the ground rumble off the richter scale here.

Thanks for throwing out ideas for getting motre goods raz. We want to collect enough to donate to dozens of shelters around the state. Paul will get more spread out local paper coverage that way.

Luckily we have time to plan large! Local meet ups can also go door to door, asking for some cans while dropping of RP lit.

So many ideas coming in and around....................:) :) :)

Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to see what sorts of healthier foods Hormmel sells and include some in the next orgy of self-organization.

I wasn't saying anything negative about the choices you made, I'm sure the kids aren't either. I'm just thinking including more Hormel products might a nice thing to do. It keeps the SPAM theme alive. And who knows, perhaps the powers that be, or perhaps the employees, at Hormel might just look at what Dr. Paul is saying.

I won't be there for it, but I'll donate to it if any of you who will be there get a food drive organized.:)

I don't think you should change very much about how you did it in Spartanburg. I'm not crazy about getting businesses involved (McCain-Feingold issues?), or even in putting TONS of energy into this at the expense of giving money to the campaign.

I think we did a good thing. I think we made a point, and I think we had fun doing it. Eric did a GREAT job finding a shelter, and every thing went smoothly.

Would be fun to have Dr. Paul maybe help donate the food for PR... but maybe even not that. *He's* not a spammer, after all.

I thought it was great the way it was, and don't mess with a good thing.

When I read the article I was stunned!

Who would've ever thought that cut-throat Presidential politics could be so kind hearted.

Ron Paul's birthday is August 20th, and people on this forum have been kicking around the idea of making his birthday a day of charity. Imagine Ron Paul supporters all over the country doing something like this, it would really get us a lot of press.

i **really** hate to say this... but perhaps you guys should rethink which charities you are donating this stuff to.

perhaps the families of deployed or KIA troops... disabled or wounded veterans... victims of domestic terrorism... people who have had their property taken from the government.. etc..

i know that donating to a children's home is as pure-hearted as it can get, and thats wonderful - but we also need to keep in mind that this is for a political cause and we'd like to gain supporters ultimately out of this.

i really hated saying that, but i felt like i needed to. just my thoughts. feel free to disagree with me.

There has only been one food drive so far (hopefully more to come) it was done at the last minute and we found a local charity.

Feel free to research other charities for food drives and suggest them for future food drives.

The magic of this entire incident was its spontaneity. It was truly real-world demonstration of self-organization. I'm all for continuing support for spamming charities, I think it is a wonderful idea, but if we get to analytical about exactly what does and doesn't work, we'll be to busy to miss the next eruption of revolutionary love. I'm sure it will be as different from this as this is from sign painting parties.
