So, not only do we have to deal with an overwhelmingly Democratic population. But our GOP has been playing dirty tricks since they overthrew the Queen

Hopefully that huge influx is Ron Paul related!

Wow,
Those guys are giving the Aloha Spirit a bad name ( I use to live in Kauai)
I have no doubt they know the registrations are votes for Paul and they do not want to see him showing an early lead.
Dirty tricks indeed.

This happened in 1988 people. The question was, will it happen again. Thus far, it has not.

This article is from 1988 and refers to another election cycle.
Kauai will always be "home", spending most of the time on Oahu nowadays because of work:( . Since you lived here, you can imagine how most people respond to the word Republican.
Hopefully that huge influx is Ron Paul related!
Members of our meetup are focusing on becoming friends with the party. They are going to a playground "blessing" tomorrow.
We have had some success. Someone from our sunset group has quietly watched me pitching RP for weeks now. The other day he asked a few questions and smiled and told me that he and his family are voting Republicans, I mentioned becoming a delegate and he was receptive. Still not completely sold on RP, I don't push...
We have a long hill to climb but, thass OK; if it was easy, it'd be boring...

Ah, I was reading to much earlier (systems overload) and missed that it was an old article. Glad to know its not current and I hope they do play fair this time.
North Shore Kauai is an extraordinary place on the planet. If it wasn't for them, pulling away some curtains for me back in '95-98, I don't know if I would be here now helping with the Paul campaign.
I like reading your stories about all that you are doing over there!
Aloha!:)

Does anyone see a pattern with straw polls?
First, Ron Paul comes in second at a few of them (one was in Utah--he was second or third--and the other was in Cobb County, GA, which is the Atlanta area), and it's barely reported.
Then, people start dropping out of the IOWA straw vote, so that no one will attach any credibility to the results.
And now, HI is thinking about cancelling a straw poll?
HMMM, this sure looks like a pattern to me. Looks like those straw polls are becoming AWFULLY dangerous to TPTB!

You make a good point, but missed the date on this article
1988.
We are hoping to avoid a repeat and discussed this issue at our sub-meet/banner making party last night
