View Full Version : Help Needed - Passing out Tip Tax Flyers in Casinos

I'm going to be visiting some casinos and thought I would attach a small business card size paper with my tips.
Help me with the wording, please.
Tell me if security will go wild if I also just pass out just the flyers to bartenders as I pass by a bar.
Tell me if it's a no no to attach something to a $1 bill and slide it to the bartender (or anyone else) via paper clip.
What if I drop it on top of other tips that may be sitting there?
It's $50 to print up 1000 business cards (one side B/W). Would rather pass out 50 $1 tips.
I am thinking of using a simple copy paper cut into strips that are close to business card size, single sided of course. Not a lot of room but I just want to get the main message out.
Do you think it will help? Anyone else want try this?

My thoughts on the text:

(big bold print) No More Tax On Tips!
(A little smaller) Keep your whole paycheck!
(small) Ron Paul promises to get rid of tax on tips and after that get rid of the IRS!
Vote Ron Paul, please vote 01/19/08 (caucus day)
www.ronpaul2008.com
(very small) paid for by a private person (see HR 3664 tax free tips act)

That should fit.

This info might be a little late for this instance, but some may find it helpful for later dates.

I own a small computer shop, and was very happy with the business cards I got from these people:
http://www.clubflyers.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=28

My lousy photoshop skills and all, the cards still looked very professional. Color printed both sides, UV reactive (slick) coating, 5,000 cards for $89 total. $14 shipped to Indiana. Expect a weeks lead time.

If you can find out where the employee parking is, I would put them on their cars:)

I am thinking that it may make some break room conversations when they get a $1 tip for no reason.
Every vote counts, so even if I get 1 or 2 more votes out there I am doing my part.

Someone in Reno bought a bunch of printed biz cards just like that, unfortunately I don't know who it was or where he got them. You might be able to find them if you google hard enough, or maybe just hit up your local Kinko's and you'll have them the next day.

I've just been using campaign "No taxes on tips" slims that I bought 5 sleeves of. :D

You'll be fine handing them out with your tips, but don't be aggressive, and only give them out when you are actually giving a tip...don't hunt out employees just to flyer them or you'll likely be asked to leave. If you're spending $$$ and gambling they won't care so much. Also, don't give them to the dealers while they are dealing. The casino might throw a fit cuz they could (possibly) hide chips underneath the paper, not so much cuz of message. Depending on the casino, the employees might be found smoking outside. You can hit them on their smoke breaks if you can find them...but the casino will try to hide the smoking area from public view, check in alleys and courtyards. If you can infiltrate the breakroom you can leave a bunch of slims in there...but that's real dicey for a non-employee.

Also, remember almost everyone in the casino is working for tips...the dealers, the bartenders, the valets, the cashier's cage...EVERYONE.

Hope that helps.

I received an excellent response!! This works!!
I hit every bar I could from Luxor to the Venetian.
It's not that hard to do and each bar only takes a few minutes.

I NEED HELP! Please! I can't hit all the different shifts in the casinos, all the local casinos across town, and all the local bars. It's really not that hard, these guys love the idea! What about Reno?

We don't have a lot of time and I think this is a great opportunity!
I did the night shift, I can continue to do so for a while.
Please do what you can when you can and even local to you.
A number of the bartenders were going to vote RP already but didn't know about the 19th. Now hopefully they will come, I said "every vote counts, we were this close to beating Giuliani in NH"
The bar waitresses loved the idea, some had said they heard something about this.
It was very positive!
I think I can make a pdf and or convert this to other formats, no promises but I will try to post it somehow. This could work for other States too, local bars etc...
Some of the lines "a vote for the other guys is just same-same, so why bother, send a message to the other politicians that we don't want this anymore". "the message is getting out"
"Ron Paul is the only one talking about this issue" "he's going to get rid of the IRS so you can keep your whole paycheck". And if they say he can't do that, they have been trying.... "but he's going to reduce spending enough so we don't need it anymore" etc....
A number of the guys gave me the tip back, since they were already Paul supporters, which was very nice of them, that let me hit a few others.
The opening line "Thank you for all your hard work" then sometimes "you could keep the whole tip if you vote for Ron Paul" "he's the one that introduced a bill to get rid of taxes on tips".
You have to practice the "taxes on tips" part, I would say it backwards sometimes.
I asked a few of them if it was a problem for the casino that I am doing this and they said they didn't think so or "why?". And what the heck, you are out of there in a few minutes anyway.
I was always patient if it was busy, never demanding or pushy. If it was really busy I just handed it to them and said please read this later, or "stop the taxes on your tips!".
I got one "I love Ron Paul! shout", and one guy said he would promote it around!
Try it! It may be possible to do it without the tip, but I think the tip makes them wonder a bit, and probably makes it more likely they will read the flier later. No doubt it's going to be talked about in the break room.
The tip is really like an example to show they could keep all of it, you could give out monopoly money and talk about that issue too.
You could do it with a fake dollar that's partially cut off as an example, I would slice it diagonally just to make the point. (and make sure the dollar looks totally fake, don't want to get in trouble, maybe a party store).
One guy told me he pays about $6 every hour he works, even when the bar is slow and he isn't making that much, it's calculated depending on the shift. One bar can be busy and the other isn't but they pay the same amount. It's not fair!
And it's a gift. Taxes were already paid by the guy handing it to them as a gift.

Edu,

You bring up an excellent point. When I give a tip, I have already paid taxes on that money.

Why then, should the person I give that gift of a tip, be required to pay taxes again.

A tip is not wages, but a gift based on service rendered.

Write directly on the bills as well.

Don't tax tips.

It would be nice to have at least one mirror out there of these files, because some people might not be able to go to this site, so if anyone else can host them, please post a link, thanks.

Just looked up HR 3664 today to see where it's at:

Tax Free Tips Act of 2007 - Amends the Internal Revenue Code to exempt tips from the income tax, social security and railroad retirement taxes, unemployment taxes, and tax withholding. Defines "tips" as any gratuity provided to a salaried employee by a customer or client of the employer's business.

COSPONSORS:
Rep Sensenbrenner, F. James, Jr. [WI-5] - 10/18/2007
Rep Souder, Mark E. [IN-3] - 10/29/2007

Latest Major Action: 9/25/2007 Referred to House committee. Status: Referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means.

That's sad. It's been sitting there all this time?

Hey Las Vegas, where is Harry Reid on this?
