My meetup tonight was having a discussion about marching around some MLK parades. Of course most of us are pasty white and wouldn't fit in.

We were unsure whether or not to do it because we didn't want it to seem like a bunch of white RP supporters crashing an event to honor MLK.

What do you think?

There are MLK parades?

I would say if someone is African-America, go for it. Otherwise, no.

As someone that lives in a community that already has a Martin Luther King parade, definitely no. I think trying to get a political candidate support at an event like this would offend many people. It would take away from the message of MLK day.

I am even apprehensive of having a MLK moneybomb day.

That's kind of my thought too

Only if Paul himself participated in the parade, no signs etc. Otherwise- No.

I say do it. But hold MLK signs as well, and Ron Paul signs should have his quotes regarding MLK.

Anyone who would get offended is a hypocrite. Anyone who operates out of fear is a coward and not worthy to be in a rEVOLution.

If I understand the question correctly, then no. I am all for our own MLK events as posted elsewhere, but not for hijacking existing parades. I think it would cause "blowback."

i say do it. you'll look like a bunch of pasty whites who care about their country, and the tradition (and power) of non-violent resistance.

remember RP had something like 33% approval amongst "african" americans...

you will probably be exceptionally well received!

Our Nashville meetup took a poll last night and we decided not to do it.

Absolutely -

Martin Luther King did not just represent people of color - he represented all peoples - minorities and majorities - which by the way, whites are the minority in California now.

Martin Luther King represented freedom, truth, liberty, and standing up to out of control government - even to the point of putting your life on the line.

They had a 1 million man march - of 99% black people. Let's have a 10million man march in DC with ALL peoples of all colors and races - and deliver the constitution to the president.

we can honor MLK, but i think we should leave the marches to african-americans, it just seems like more of a heritage thing

Why? Are you racist?

I said yes but in a personal choice kind of thing. Either way no harm is done.
